Connect +

Shame on Garmin for locking the comments on the first feed.

The changes made in the Connect 5.0 app made it prime for a premium version. Anyone who looked at it logically then could see this coming. The way they removed so much of the customization and limited what users could put on their dashboards, how they decimated the web version with that update, this was always going to happen. They just started out slowly getting users warmed up to the idea by introducing the premium watch faces.

How long until they start putting the more robust training features behind the paywall and users who don't subscribe are left with the basics like heart rate, steps, and sleep? I am betting 6-12 months. Connect+ is already limited to which watches it works with - Venu3/3s, Vivoactive 5. FR165/255/955/265/965, Fenix7/7Pro/8/E, EpixProGen2, Quatix7, Tactix7/8, Marq2, and D2Mach1/Pro according to DesFit. Now users who actually want the subscription features and don't have one of those watches are going to have to upgrade - everyone knows that Garmin watches are already overpriced. In Canada the price of the Fenix 8 has been going up since it was released not down. Even the sale prices are exaggerated for what you get.

  • will not pay any extra after spending more than 1000 euros on a fenix 7 sapphire solar, an Edge 540 and HRMPro chest band....

  • Exactly. Stop spreading misinformation.. gps do Not require wifi or phone connection to work. Efemerides are just downloaded via GSM much faster than via gps. That's why our watch catches fix in few sec instead of few mins each time.

Just buy a standalone SPI gps reciever, connect to a dev board (or flipper zero), it will connect and will fix, but it will take up to 10min when cold started.

People forgot how it was in a early days of navigation.

  • well, I remember, my first device was gps12 in 1998

it still works by the way, though gps fix time is painful, since there is no gps-a and it could track only 8 sats at time

  • Idea, fantasy? Joy

Now, hard reset your watch and try setting up it without connecting to anything. You say it won't connect to GPS because it's not connected to Bluetooth or WiFi? It'll get the time from the GPS and you'll see it'll get a GPS position, too. Just it'll take a little more time to fix. In the next tries it'll fix faster because it already downloaded ephemeris data which works for a few hours. But if you let it stay fixed to sats for around an half hour, it'll continue to work faster in the following days too. Three frames of GPS data is ephemeris which works for two hours and two frames for almanac which helps for a week.

  • Exactly. It works, slowly but works just fine.  What I meant is that user Bullet spreading missingormation

  • Why do not Garmin say this in the manual?

  • It doesn't have to. Because it's kinda deeper information about how the GPS system works. But due to lots of accuracy threads in the older forums they know they need to tell people about help of syncing via Bluetooth and WiFi. I know even my friends just take the watch from the cabinet put on the arm and go for a runand asking why it doesn't connect fast like mine...

  • It does:

    Acquiring Satellite Signals

The device may need a clear view of the sky to acquire satellite signals. The time and date are set automatically based on the GPS position.
TIP: For more information about GPS, go to garmin.com/aboutGPS.
    1. Go outdoors to an open area.

The front of the device should be oriented toward the sky.

    2. Wait while the device locates satellites.

It may take 30–60 seconds to locate satellite signals.

Again, have you read the manual?

  • Folks who are annoyed about Connect+ might enjoy the first Dark Mirror episode of Series 7 ;-)

  • This is only for gps signal!!  Not for map of satellites and future position.  It gets it from internet like connect or express. It does not get anything else from gps except time and postion
