Connect +

Shame on Garmin for locking the comments on the first feed.

The changes made in the Connect 5.0 app made it prime for a premium version. Anyone who looked at it logically then could see this coming. The way they removed so much of the customization and limited what users could put on their dashboards, how they decimated the web version with that update, this was always going to happen. They just started out slowly getting users warmed up to the idea by introducing the premium watch faces.

How long until they start putting the more robust training features behind the paywall and users who don't subscribe are left with the basics like heart rate, steps, and sleep? I am betting 6-12 months. Connect+ is already limited to which watches it works with - Venu3/3s, Vivoactive 5. FR165/255/955/265/965, Fenix7/7Pro/8/E, EpixProGen2, Quatix7, Tactix7/8, Marq2, and D2Mach1/Pro according to DesFit. Now users who actually want the subscription features and don't have one of those watches are going to have to upgrade - everyone knows that Garmin watches are already overpriced. In Canada the price of the Fenix 8 has been going up since it was released not down. Even the sale prices are exaggerated for what you get.

  • Remember when live track would send a notice at the beginning of an activity? This went away recently

My LiveTrack continues to work fine, and I'm not subscribed to Connect+

There is a new Connect+ feature called Live Activity which is different from LiveTrack - Using Live Activity With My Garmin Connect+ Subscription

  • Garmin has been more than fair with me over the years and my InReach device is necessary for some of my activities. I am inclined to give Garmin the benefit of the doubt and see what happens with Connect+.

However, if Garmin moves things behind the paywall or stops supporting current features, I will have to consider my pat forward.

As it is, $6.99/month is one less coffee at Starbucks

  • I like the idea of Live Activity, but think it's silly to charge extra for it.  Other platforms and devices can do it, ones that cost a lot less.

I think it is really terrible to take away the Dashboards only to bring them back behind a paywall.

As for the exclusive badges and ways to decorate your profile pic?  They must be kidding.

I too worry that what's free now won't always be, and that new "features" will be behind the paywall.

If a subscription is needed, then device prices should come down.  They won't, I'm sure.

  • It is $69/year in the US, is that that expensive in Europe? Ouch Head bandage Garmin badges are now pay to win, I don't feel that proud of my achievements now when comparing to someone who is not on the subscription or does not even know about Connect+. This approach sucks and makes me feel like a fool I trusted this system for years.

  • Ah yes, Garmin’s brilliant strategy to stay ahead of the competition - by introducing premium (aka pay-to-win) features. Why waste time improving core functionality when you can just hand out absurdly high-point badges for… well, existing? Nothing screams "elite athlete" like earning top-tier rewards for sitting on the couch.

Meanwhile, competitors like Samsung are out here rolling out AI-driven insights for free, but who needs actual innovation when Garmin’s AI can give you the groundbreaking revelation that you're exhausted - right after you've already collapsed?

And let’s not forget Garmin’s fearless commitment to not fixing things. Bugs? Crashes? Corrupt data? Missing activities from training plans? Oh, you wanted your strength training to be included in your running or cycling coach plan? How adorable. While other companies are busy refining their products, Garmin has heroically decided to let us experience the thrill of beta testing - indefinitely.

Instead of catching up with Suunto, Coros, and Polar, Garmin has chosen a far greater battle: testing the absolute limits of consumer patience.

So, congratulations, Garmin! From a once-respected industry leader to a shining beacon of corporate greed - what an inspirational transformation. Bravo. Clap

  • Why are we trying to spread (April fools) misinformation. Seriously...

  • I didn’t read it Well but doubted the message from otherwise always very serieus 5 k runner. Now I read the last line of the article and indeed it was a prank. But I posted it before I knee this.

  • Seriously.

Active Intelligence is nothing more than "Insights" was before.

There is no valuable information presented. It just repeats data that is there anyhow.

I will end subscription before I have to pay.

  • Agreed. It's just "insights" but repackaged all over again. Maybe they might improve this but I highly doubt
