Connect +

Shame on Garmin for locking the comments on the first feed.

The changes made in the Connect 5.0 app made it prime for a premium version. Anyone who looked at it logically then could see this coming. The way they removed so much of the customization and limited what users could put on their dashboards, how they decimated the web version with that update, this was always going to happen. They just started out slowly getting users warmed up to the idea by introducing the premium watch faces.

How long until they start putting the more robust training features behind the paywall and users who don't subscribe are left with the basics like heart rate, steps, and sleep? I am betting 6-12 months. Connect+ is already limited to which watches it works with - Venu3/3s, Vivoactive 5. FR165/255/955/265/965, Fenix7/7Pro/8/E, EpixProGen2, Quatix7, Tactix7/8, Marq2, and D2Mach1/Pro according to DesFit. Now users who actually want the subscription features and don't have one of those watches are going to have to upgrade - everyone knows that Garmin watches are already overpriced. In Canada the price of the Fenix 8 has been going up since it was released not down. Even the sale prices are exaggerated for what you get.

  • It’s more expensive than Strava in The Netherlands… it’s truly a joke.

  • It’s more expensive than Strava in The Netherlands

Not here. Strava is $79.99 US or $11.99 monthly

Garmin Connect+ is $69.99 US or $6.99 monthly.

  • In Canada the yearly plan for Conncet+ and Strava are the same $99.99, but monthly Connect+ is $9.99 and Strava is $14.99, tax not included.

  • Why did I ever get Connect+? It's time to make a stand! No one should have to pay for Connect+. Maybe then, Garmin will learn that customers have the final word. I own at least 10 Garmin devices, but if I have to switch to Wahoo or another company because of Garmin's greed, so be it.

  • As a user of Edge 1050 and Epix, I spend considerable amount of money for premium device expecting premium features and to be honest, I would be OK to have this Connect+ included for 2 years with new device for user, and keep subscription to budget watches and pass 2 years to support fast innovation. But this model where I have to already pay twice for TOPO maps because licence is per device not user, not shareable, and then pay loads of money for premium devices and then on top of that pay for a features (for Europe even more expensive than in USA), not mentioning how you completely destroyed inReach for season users.. and this is only beginning, soon we will be milked for data exports, new sports, etc.

Just sharing my thoughts. Time to look around more.

  • Shame on Garmin, I made the switch from Apple Watch Ultra to Garmin because I was sick of having to use multiple different apps to collect the metrics data that I wanted. The bulk of those apps are subscriptions.

now after paying a premium price for a Fenix 8 I find Garmin is slapping on there own subscription….. poor form Garmin, poor form.

    its just not necessary Garmin!

do the right thing, drop this early and win back your customers.

  • Users that already pay for Tacx app will have access to Connect+ or they will have to pay 2 suscriptions?

  • So they finally let you see your watch activity on your phone, which kind of takes the edge off how painful it is to log strength training. But naturally, the part that could actually make the whole process smoother? That’s tucked behind the premium paywall. It's not like syncing data between your watch and phone racks up major server costs, so it really just feels like they're charging for the bare minimum now. Instead of fixing their clunky UI for everyone, they’ve decided to slap a price tag on basic functionality. Classic.

  • Garmin locking the other thread clearly shows they do not care. I paid £800 for my Descent Mk2s with the understanding that there WAS NO SUBSCRIPTION and the high cost of my device subsidised the Connect platform. The mere existence of the paid platform is a clear sign that all/most new features will go to the paid version and the base platform will get nothing. You've broken all trust here Garmin, I was waiting for the next Descent to upgrade but I will look elsewhere now. Makes sense to avoid greedy, consumer-hostile American companies and look to other brands like Suunto and Polar.
