Do I need to install maps or just insert SD card?

I have a Nuvi 255W and it has the US maps installed. I just purchased the maps for my trip to Italy tomorrow that come on the SD card. They seem to have little instruction with them. Do I somehow have to install the maps on my GPS or once I get to Italy do I just put that SD card in the slot and the maps are available?

Any help would be appreciated!

If you have purchased a preprogrammed card, they are plug and play.

Is it possible to copy the maps onto the internal memory of the 255w so that I don't have to have the card inserted?
