Garmin Web Connect does not show my courses

Garmin Web Connect shows only 2 of my many courses that I have created. Below the two courses that are shown there is a message stating

"You can’t see 11 of your courses because they don’t match the search criteria. To view all of your courses, reset the filters and map view."

With a hyper link that says "reset filters" but when i click it nothing happens. Neither are there any results if I try to create a filter and then delete it.

  • Change the zoom or the position of the map in order to show all locations where your courses are.

  • I had to uncheck all the filter boxes then reset.

  • The user experience here is very, very bad imo.

Garmin shouldn't be filtering your courses based on the initial size / position of the map (as it seems to be doing for OP), nor based on the user moving the map or zooming in or out. And given that they do this, they should be giving the user a button that is guaranteed to show all their courses, but they don't. There's no button that will both reset the filters *and* "reset" the map so that all of your courses are visible. Even if you could "reset" the map with a button, if your courses are scattered over multiple countries, then the "default view" probably won't show all of them, as it would be too zoomed out, which is probably what happened to OP. And even if the "default view" always did show all of your courses, that would mean that for some people, it *would* be too zoomed out.

Yes, you can disable the (new?) feature called "search when I move map" (*), but then that breaks the Nearby Courses tab, and it doesn't help if your courses happened to filtered out on page load.

    (*) I think it's a new feature because:

    - I don't recall seeing the checkbox before (so at least the ability to disable it is new)

    - if you move the map so that *all* of your courses are filtered, the text in the UI only tells you to reset filters and says nothing about "resetting the map view", which makes me think that when they implemented this new feature, they changed the other message but forget to change this one.

Speaking of which, the error message below all your courses says "To view all of your courses, reset the filters and map view" and gives you a link to reset filters, but gives you no way to reset the map view. You have to figure out that yourself. Sure you could try reloading the page, but that wouldn't help if the initial map view already didn't include all your courses.

Second, if you have several courses in the list, then this message won't be visible unless you scroll all the way down to the bottom, and it won't be visible at the same time as the message on top of the course list: "Showing X Courses" (which gives no hint whether any courses were filtered out or not).

Clearly Garmin did not test with more than a handful of courses.

    My 2 cents:

    1) the My Courses tab should show all of the user's courses by default, regardless of what's shown on the map. It would actually be cool if there was a button on each course listing which moves / zooms the map to show the general vicinity of the course (it could be a crosshairs emoji or something)

    2) If Garmin really wants to give the user a way to filter My Courses based on the map, then there could be a separate checkbox *only* for My Courses along the lines of "Hide courses which aren't visible on the map"

    3) the "Showing X Courses" text should be changed to "Showing X of Y courses" (when courses are filtered). It should be always be visible, even when the list is scrolled

    4) the "You can't see Z courses because..." text should be moved under "Showing X Courses" and should also always be visible, even when the list is scrolled. At the very least, both messages should somehow always be visible.

    5) Assuming Garmin implements 1) and 2), then I would get rid of "Search when I move map" checkbox (and the "Seach this area" button that's displayed when the checkbox is unchecked). Just automatically update the Nearby Courses tab when the map is zoomed or moved (which is how I assume it used to work)

  • I absolutely agree! THis was driving me mad - I imported a course and it flashed up then immediately disappeared.  I could not - for the life in me - work out what was going wrong.  The page said that it was because I had filters set (which I did not!)  It was only when I searched for the message 'You can’t see 5 of your courses because they don’t match the search criteria. To view all of your courses, reset the filters and map view.' and came here that I got the answer. What an utterly stupid system!

  • Yeah it's another example of half-baked Garmin functionality that sounds good on paper but doesn't work well in all cases or even by default (for some users). Garmin always prioritizes "features" over usability and it seems like they don't eat their own dogfood.

Maybe if enough ppl contact garmin at [email protected] or https://support.garmin.com/ they will look into this but idk
