Please add the feature that shows how much time was spent in each heart rate zone. I need this information in order to train properly. Thank you.

    Time spent in HR zones

Also bumping this thread - another long one with many requests asking for this most basic analysis feature.

+1 - I would like to see both distance and time in HR zone and power zones when cycling.
Pretty much essential for following a structured training plan.

Also I think that the time in zones should be specific to the HR & Power zones setup in GC user settings on the day that the activity takes place. This is important because the zones will change over the season as fitness peaks.

    Thanks

Can't understand why garmin keep ignore this important feature. I know it is in GTC, but it is just different. And in GTC ,there is only 5zones which isn't enough for me, I need 7 .

I started using a Garmin Edge 800 a few months ago. I've used Polar HW and SW for the last 7 years now for training and racing. I train with HR and supplement with RPE. I use the seven Polar zones, compare race to race from year to year and gauge my training load by time in HR zone. Using power is not an option as I have five bikes and race four different ones (Road, MTB FS, MTB SS, CX). Race telemetry data are the most valuable to me. I very much like the advantages of GPS. For me, I now use both the Polar and Garmin because I am loath to leave behind my ability to do accurate HR comparisons. I appreciate that many others have the same desire for Garmin Connect.

In the meantime, if someone has a viable alternative for this HR dilemma while we wait a change in SW I'm all ears.
    Thanks,

Training Peaks will analyze time in HR zones and has better elevation correction algorithms then Garmin Connect. I only road bike, but training to power has given me a HUGE improvement in efficiency (not sure how much this would help with MTB). Maybe if Garmin ever releases their Vector power meter pedals you could start using power as well.

I am ashamed that Garmin cant be arsed to add this very important function. It is not like it should be major work, and it has been promised for years. I've been waiting for it for over a year now, since I bought my 310xt. Still no time in zones feature and it really makes my training difficult to analyze and being a rider with no power meter i REALLY want a way to calculate my training workload.

I would really appreciate an official statement from Garmin Dev team on this. Why is it taking so long?

Bumping this again. I will give Garmin a few months, otherwise I will migrate to Trainingpeaks or Strava.

Was this feature ever added? I like the Garmin software and interface, but with out this feature it almost makes we want to go back to another device that I used. I do use Strava and it works well for rides where you are outside, but even they fall short in that for doing workouts on your trainer, it does not break it down. Not sure why.

Any which way, I like the Garmin and everything about it EXCEPT for the fact they have left out ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT FEATURES FOR ANYONE THAT USES SOME ELEMENT OF HEART RATE ZONES FOR TRAINING.

Garmin, when is this coming? Just as an aside I am an outdoor writer and going to do a review of the Garmin Edge 500 since I switched from another brand. My sites I write for see over 150,000 people a month. I would love to tell them this feature is coming on X date.
    Thanks

  • I've been using Garmin devices for several years and NEVER use their software for any serious analysis. GC has gotten prettier and since all workouts are automatically uploaded I've kept it up to date, but Garmin Connect and Garmin Training Center are so inadequate for data analysis that I wouldn't bother. Just knowing time in HR zones is helpful, but not nearly enough to really analyze power or HR after training. Do yourselves a favor and use Training Peaks (there is a free version) or some other 3rd party solution. I'm not excusing Garmin but if they're smart, they'll partner with, or license a 3rd party vendor and concentrate on the hardware.
