It seems that this is a function in demand going by search results. Third party solutions exist, but they require deleting data from Garmin then re-uploading which is pretty clunky. Surely an option of "you started a new activity of the same type within x-minutes of the last one, would you like to combine them into one?" wouldn't be too arduous to add to the website?
