I have an Edge 705. Is there anyway I can use either the device itself or one of the analysis programs to find the time spent in each zone for a ride?

Currently GC does not provide this information... (it's been asked for by many...and I would have to guess / hope it's coming). Although Team GC guards their release schedule and future features like they're launch codes for an ICBM! Anyway, I digress...back to your question.
In the interim you can get this zone breakdown information in the Garmin Training Center software...If you're not currently uploading your information to Training Center, it is a little of a pain because it's an extra step in the process...However, it does serve as a good back up of your training data on your local machine also...
