export Activity to gpx not working++

Export File or CSV does work, but not to GPX.

I had already the problem with my mobile router, so I was thinking some firewall issue or timeout, but now it is with all internet providers (home, work, bus, cafe)...

With 2 PCS, win10, win11.

I could get a fit file but when trying to convert to gpx, it says file unusable. Was the case for my last 2 hikes ( ~ 6 h, ~15 km). I could export gpx for a 1 h run... Is 6 h too long for Garmin?

I tried to save the activity as a course and then export gpx of the course. It does save a full gpx file this way but I notice the gps trace created on the website finishes before that in activity. In fact when I load the course, it shows all the trace for a second and then a big chunk at the end disappears. Some kind of bug? Is this all a problem of file size being to large for garmin to handle? Also, a workaround is not satisfactory for a commercial product IMO.

Is there a way to get the direct export work for any file size? Thanks.

  • I have a ski activity. Export as fit cost 1 second, but as gpx gives HTTP 504 gateway timeout error after 10 seconds.

Only the Resort Ski activity has this problem, either the Breathwork or the Cycling doesn't.

    I don't know why.

  • Another problem is that the gps track I can export from the course has the starting time set to the course creation time. Therefore, it loses the real time. It is a problem for me as I want to use the gps data for processing. Garmin cannot just copy the file from activity to course without changing time? A workaround and even not a perfect one. Have to again modify time... is garmin looking into this? Probably just some piece of code to modify...

  • is garmin looking into this?

If you reported it to the Support, then perhaps. This is just a user forum, where you can learn some workarounds, but you have to speak directly to the Support for a true fix.

Otherwise, there are plenty of 3rd party services that can convert the FIT file to a GPX format - for example Strava, Plotaroute, Runalyze, FitFileViewer, ...

  • Thanks for the all the information.

I could download fit, the first 2 converters (to gpx) proposed by Google did not work. but FitFileViewer worked.

Well, the forum is under the "suppport" part of the website. besides, many companies use these forum, watch and intervene there when customers have real problems...

I find another active thread with same or similar issue...

Yes, you get some help from fellow users here, but for getting help directly from Garmin, and for reporting issues to Garmin, you have to contact the directly through https://support.garmin.com/
