Map, lap and heartrate data disappeared

I have been uploading my data to both Garmin Training Centre and Garmin Connect for most of this year, and it has all been going well.

However, after my most recent upload of the Melbourne Marathon (11-Oct-2009), I went back to check on a previous marathon (31-May-2009), and discovered that it is missing data. This entry and most of my older entries (I have not checked them all) are missing map data ("No map data found for this activity"), as well as the timing and heartrate charts - the averages for time and heartrate appear, but the charts are not there.

These entries definitely had this data in them previously.

It appears that it is not loading correctly, as the bottom of the browser window says "Transferring data from connectapi.garmin.com".

Does anyone know what is causing this or how to fix it. I am certainly glad that I have not given up on the desktop software yet if the online setup loses my data!

Cheers, Nick.

This is a bug that should concern everyone with a Garmin Device

Is anyone else having this problem - of their old runs data disappearing? My old runs still have no map data associated with them. This is very disappointing, as I have already removed them from my ForeRunner device to make room for new runs.

Can anyone help with why this has happened? The data was defintely there previously, and is there no longer.

This is something that everyone should worry about if it means that you might lose all your old data on what I had presumed was a reliable Garmin server.

I just discovered I'm having this issue as well. Every one of my runs from February 12th, 2009 and before is missing its map data. I still have the summary and lap data, but everything else is gone. The other curious thing is that in Training Center on my computer, the same data has been lost as well. Like you, I definitely had this data before, both in Training Center and in Garmin Connect. I'm quite concerned as to how data could be lost from my computer at the same time as it's lost from Garmin Connect.

I'm using Training Center and Ant Agent on a Mac, the latest non-Beta version, using a Forerunner 405.

If anyone has had any progress with or further experience with this, I would love to hear about it.

    Hi guys,

After looking at your accounts it appears very clear that the data was not on the devices when you uploaded. This also explains why the data is not found in Training Center. What happened is explained:

Hello everyone. Indeed I have been trying to get this sorted since I first discovered it on the anniversary date of buying my 405. The herat rate and timing data are all gone from events over 1 yr old. You will see my posts on this. You will also see that it is claimed that it has been fixed. Sadly .... IT HAS NOT. This to me looks like Garmin are stripping data to save disk space after 12 months. It is the MOST FRUSTRATING thing I have experienced. The device is otherwise brilliant. Garmin, please get this sorted.

Every device has the capacity to store active trackpoints. Different devices store different quantities of active trackpoints. Those trackpoints contain the necessary data for upload (lat/lon, altitude, time, etc). Once the active memory/storage is full, the device automatically starts overwriting the older trackpoints/activities to record the new. Uploading those old activities without the GPS and other fitness data that's been overwritten (lat/lon, altitude, time, hr, cadence, etc) causes the activity to show up without the data; it's been overwritten. There is nothing we can do to restore data once it's been overwritten on the device. We always suggest uploading after each activity in order to avoid losing data.

    same happened

Exactly the same has happened to me since I uploaded my last two trainings, one bike ride with my Edge 705 and one run with my Forerunner 405.
I have uploaded my data after every activity and has emptied the memories on both my devices after each training. So, it cannot be that it is because it is overwriting the last data.
It is sad that all my data are gone, but all of them, since I started using Garmin.
This has to be fixed because I use the graphs regularly to evaluate new trainings.
So, please, Garmin guys, get this sorted out, please. I have been a great fan of your equipment but this is a massive downer.
  • Exactly the same thing here. I've had my Garmin 405 for over 12 months and it has always worked fine. In the past I have had to delete old workouts to make room for map and graph data and it has worked fine.

But about 3 months ago it completely stopped uploading map/graph data. I have deleted everything from my Garmin (history and totals) and still no map or graph data. My firmware and software is up-to-date. I've tried Windows and Mac (and multiple computers). Nothing works :( Please help!

    No map on first run!

Great, my new watch, first run & excited to see it. All the map data is missing. Brand new with no activities! I've downloaded all software & can connect with no problems! Not sure if I should take it back now? Or am I missing something?

Which device are you using? Can you post a link to your activity? Did it record HR but not position? Can you tell us how you set up the device before you started the activity. For example -- did you press start/stop at the beginning, start/stop and the end, and then press and hold lap/reset? Did you wait to acquire a good lock on the GPS satellites?

ditto here with the missing data.

    Garmin 310 XT using automultisport

here is a leg of a triathlon where the data still exists:http://connect.garmin.com/activity/22568417

and a leg from the same triathlon where it is missing:http://connect.garmin.com/activity/22568407

I know for a fact this data existed in Connect at one point (after the event, when I immediately uploaded it).
