Why does it show "total time" and not "average time" or pace for the ride?

I want to see the average for the moving time, not the total time spent on the ride. For example, I go out for 5 hours and 3 of those are spent riding, the other 2 are spent drinking latte's. It only gives the average for the entire ride. Motion Based did not have this issue. What am I missing? thanks,
  • I have read this complaint a few times. The responses lead me to believe that it will be addressed in an update.

Understand your point.... seems like the logical way of looking at it.

However, what device are you using...

I have the Edge 305 and it has the ability to set an "auto pause" feature to pause whenever you are stopped, or below a set speed. This may be a solution to the situation you describe.
  • You really want to be able to get two numbers, ride/active time vs total time. Averaging your speed over each of these is useful. I have long complained that the Edge and Forerunner series don't have fields for ride time. The only way to get this is to use auto-pause. The problem with auto-pause is you may still want to be tracking HR while you aren't moving.

What device do you have? I've got the Edge 705 and it only records actual exercise time. It's only when you look at the heart rate and cadence graph that you can see the hours in between when the device is powered off and graph has dropped to zero for several hours. I record my cycle to work and then cycle home, powering it off while at work and it shows only my exercise time in all the stats.
  • I have the Edge 705 (and FR 310xt). You must have your set to "auto-pause", so it doesn't record anything while it is paused. I'd prefer to have it record everything for the entire ride and then give me fields for Ride Time vs Stopped Time, and let me choose if I want the average speed/cadence/power to include stopped time or not. Not having it auto-pause lets you do more with your file once you upload it into the computer.

Do you know when this will be implemented?
I've just bought a FR50 but whenever I upload my trainings to Garmin Connect, I can only see the gross time either in the activity or the player mode. So, even if I push the stop button during a run for ,say, minutes, they are also counted as part of the training. (calculated in avg. speed, etc.).
The only way of eliminating them from total time is to go to the "splits" screen to see the length of "STOPS" and deduct their times one by one.

Are there some settings either in the wrist unit or in Garmin Connect that I am unaware of to be able to use Net time instead of the gross one?
It makes no sense to include times not spent training but something else.

    Moving Time is really needed!

I agree - The stats should reflect moving time or have a setting to select either gross or net time. Motion Based reflected the moving time in the stats. I don't want to include the time it takes me to cross the intersection in the average page time. Please advise when this will be implemented. This is a basic functio in my mind for a fitness device
