Allow manual input of all parameters (not just weight).
  • I have this exact scale, and 3 different Garmins (Rino 120, Nuvi 205W, GPSMap 76CSX, Edge 705) and I cannot get the data into Garmin Connect. So I have to buy a 5th GPS if I want to do that? Retarded.

How about a direct link between the scale and the Health feature? The ANT+ stick it comes with is Garmin branded. Why couldn't this be done?

    Hey MTBIKERNATE....
This is an easy one, just take your own advice that you were nice enough to offer the other day to me in another thread when I voiced some displeasure with Garmin.

If you've got a problem with Garmin Connect, then just go elsewhere...like MapMyRide/MapMyRun, runsaturday, TrainingPeaks, or one of the many other services out there that might meet your needs better? It's simple. Garmin is proving to be taking a LONG time to get GC running up to speed. If that's not good enough for you, other sites have much quicker development. I've been playing with a number of different services. Not sure which I'll stick with yet, but they all do certain things better than GC right now.

-shrug- I guess some people are never satisfied and just have to whine. I'm sure Garmin will figure out they've got a problem when they look at site statistics.

  • This assume no one will ever make a typo

    Hi Devon,

Thank you for taking the time to get involve in this discussion.

You are assumming that nobody will ever do a typo.
I agree that an inversion of month and day should be easy to recover.
But if you do a Typo in the "10" years, you can end up with a weight in year 209.
Well, I weighted 0kg in 209, but this make the graph unusable.
Please check the attached graph for reference.

Note: I made that typo on purpose, but I am sure that it is just a matter of time before someone else do it for real.

can i ask why you would want to delete a date? in design the question came up, but our principle is that you never weighed a null value; thus if you entered an incorrect weight value for a particular date, you would just edit the weight value for that particular date to the appropriate value.

First, I'll second BLACHANC's appreciation of your getting involved in this discussion.
I think BLACHANC did an excellent job of giving a "real world" example of why this editing capability is needed and should be allowed.

However, as someone with a programming background who works as an IT manager....I would go one step further and make a more philosophical argument.

As a general observation, it appears that Garmin prefers to keep everything "locked down" relatively tight. I disagree with this approach. I realize there's a pro and a con to every one of these decisions. But at the end of the day, it's MY DATA...ABOUT ME....FOR MY USE, therefore I should be allowed to control it. Forget about if someone thinks there is a "good reason" or "not a good reason" for me to want to delete a day that I weighed myself. If "I" want to do it, I should be given that control, regardless of the reason.

If I delete something by accident, shame on me!

Maybe part of it is Garmin is trying to keep everything idiot proof and protect the users from themselves? As I always say, If you make it idiot proof, they'll build a better idiot! :) Give up on that concept.

If Garmin wants to throw in some "Are you Sure" confirmations before allowing this action.....wonderful! But ultimately, I should be given complete control over my data. When someone at Garmin argues "WHY?" when debating whether to grant this control, someone needs to argue "WHY NOT!".

Unfortunately, the Garmin Connect software is full of examples where user control over THEIR data is too tight and this forum is full of request from the users wanting more control.

    A few other examples:

    * There are 18 fields allowed on manual entry of an activity...yet if I want to edit that activity I can change TWO of them! (this makes no sense)!

    * There are 9 Health related fields, but unless I own a specific Tanita scale along with a specific Garmin device...I'm allowed to utilize ONE of those fields! (this makes no sense)!

    * If anything goes wrong with a ride, for example, I remember to hit stop 20 minutes after I'm finished. There is no easy way for the user to simply truncate that time off the end of the ride. Therefore the stats from it or useless and inaccurate.

Weight graph is now useless due to error in entry.

    DEVONBL,
For starters if you entered the wrong date (for example you put 01/01/04) which the system will assume is 1904 you will have a data point nearly 100 years ahead of any valid data. While you can edit this datapoint to any weight value you like its presence renders the cart useless.

Is there anyway to remove this datapoint so I can use the Health/Weight feature of GC?

    Thanks.

I would also like this feature --- I have a tanita, but cant afford $250+ for just a scale...
  • Hi all!
Just a few minutes ago i have the same trouble: i entered 83kg on 12/10/2009 but i wanna enter the data at 10/12/2009... So, finally i have a "false" calendar with an incorrect weight that, surprisingly, i cannot edit...

So, i think its something quite easy to be programmed and more important, reasonable :)

Thanks and have a good day!

I have a FR60 and Tanita scale. I have one day that late day data was uploaded. I always track morning weight and I manually edit the weight but the scale data always comes back.

At this point I am just ignoring that day but it would be nice to correct it.
  • I input 10/12/2009 and it's incorrectly (I'm in the UK) put this in as Oct 12th (before I started using the feature, have no history of my actual weight then), so I too would like to be able to delete a data point.

It's nice that you know how to use the quote feature. I have gone elsewhere, but if you notice, I was specifically responding to the Garmin rep, and specifically his statement that they had no plans to make any changes to the health tab functionality. I was pointing out the idiocy of that decision, since there are lots of folks who would like to make use of it if it was available. But the health tab sits there nicely taunting all users who mostly don't have the correct equipment to use the feature. Maybe the equipment combo they suggest would offer an easier way to input data, but there's absolutely NO reason they can't at least offer manual input, or at least put the feature request into the queue.

The fact that the Garmin employee was dismissive of the request is what pushed a button. If the employee hadn't said anything, I wouldn't have even commented here because as I've said, I take my uploads elsewhere.

For the health data, I am currently happily using Tanita's software to keep track of my data. As far as I can tell, it still has more features than Garmin's health tab.

I would also like to see this feature as well. At the very least I'd like to know the file format so I can manually upload the data. I have a tanita scale which has all the data, just not the one that wirelessly connects to my garmin and I don't intend to buy a new scale
