Elevation Data correct?

Former Member

Hi All,
I have been looking at elevation data for my runs on the new Garmin Correct and it seems to be incorrect- almost looks like it is double what it should be! Checked it against another software (sporttracks) and it really is significantly off. Anyone else experienced this?
  • What device are you using? If it is a Forerunner, then the elevation will be erroneous. SportTracks does elevation correction, so that's what you're seeing there. GC plans to include this in a future update.

I use a Forerunner 205 and used the MB Gravity correction in Motionbased. This (or something similar) has not been implemented in Garmin Connect yet, so the elevation summary is way out, as you say almost double. Garmin Training Center (GTC) is the same.

I have voted with my feet :) and now use SportTracks which is free to try (send a donation if you like it, although it's not compulsory) and it makes GTC look very primitive. It is customisable with plugins of which there are plenty of free ones. I found a plugin which seems to do a reasonable elevation correction. SportTracks displays the course on satellite map, has an equipment facility (I use this to track mileage on my pairs of shoes), even an automatic weather plugin so you can record what the weather was like on your run!

GTC and Garmin Connect will have to improve significantly to tempt me back from SportTracks.
