First off, I tried to read through forums to find the answer and also checked the official FAQs.
I'm wondering what goes into the calorie calculations on garmin connect. Are these just straight dumps of the data from my device or are additional factors analyzed by the website.
I have a garmin 301 and use the heart rate monitor. On my 25 mile bike commute it said I burnt 4000+ calories.
I know the device probably doesn't take additional factors into account, but I am wondering if Garmin connect looks at the activity type, elevation, heart rate, height/weight, etc? Any other factors?
The number is kind of useless off the device because my understanding is it only accounts for the speed. This seems silly as I definitely burn more calories going slow on my mountain bike then going cruising speed on my road bike.
