Activities missing detail and maps on 305

I cleared all my activities on my Forerunner 305 before May 2009. I tried to upload 4 races today. Two of the activities were from the past two weeks.

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/14378903

Under "Additional Information" it lists my device as a Garmin Forerunner 205 when I have a 305. I can't see where I can change this.

The activity shows up fine in my Training Center. I am using MSFT Internet Explorer vers 8.0.6 for my browser.

Any ideas on my misidentification problem and lack of activity detail?
  • This has been reported before. Other than it being listed incorrectly, it will have no bearing on the data. As far as missing activity detail, this is usually because you've reached the memory limit on your device. I'd suggest keeping the history as clean as possible and upload frequently. If you want to recover the missing data, you can export from Training Center, then do a manual import into Garmin Connect.

    Same Problem

I have the same problem. I start riding with my fiancee and friends (all of whom also have 305) and when I upload to Garmin Connect, my map doesn't start until after I've stopped and started a few times.

I don't understand something about this data loss.

I get that the 305 will overwrite data as you use it, but if you sync it to the Garmin Training center, and there USED to be maps of your runs on the desktop, why did my maps ALSO disappear as I synced my data?

I lost about 9 months of maps when I changed from smart points to every second, but I would have expected that the map data would have saved since I'd synced it to my desktop (normally after every run). Why would Garmin Training Center lose the maps?

Also, I've seen the explanation in this thread:

Can someone translate that into a little more basic non-tech speak?

    still need help

I still can't find all my runs that are over a few months old. They appear to just be "gone" online. Can someone help?

I'm experiencing the same thing with my 305 and I know my map data was there from previous downloads from the device. It seems that with each download of the device, it updates and overwrites the entire database in Garmin Training Center (i.e. it doesn't just append the data on the device that is not in the TC history on your computer). I've been getting "almost out of memory" messages with each workout now and I figure it was simply erasing the earliest events and keeping a "rolling" 1,000 record database. But perhaps it is preserving the summary data and erasing the GPS data of older events to make room for the newer ones. It is frustrating. Is there a way to make the download only write the events that are on the 305 that are not in the TC database (i.e. data since the last download)? Or is there a way to backup the TC database file so one could keep a permanent copy on the hard drive?
