MB Migration

As of July 16th, 2009, 80% of all activities have been migrated from Motionbased to Garmin Connect, with the remaining 20% to be completed over the next several months. For more information on the migration process, please see this announcement:

http://www.motionbased.com/gc/view.mb

In case no-one knows, that URL is broken. Well, it is at the moment.

I'm also slightly worried that having trusted MotionBased to store all my data, and once in there, having no real way to download it all it may be lost. I had a paid subscription to MotionBased but doubt that matters.

Old information is very useful as for example, I was in an enduro race yesterday and want to compare part of the performance with how I went last year. Sadly as the old activity seems to be awaiting migration this is impossible. I can't even dot race the two on MotionBased as the old activity isn't available there for some reason (and can't upload the new anyhow).

I'm also slightly worried about the point raised here:

https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=691

Once registered on GC I connected my device and told it to upload new. There were loads of duplicate activities like this that appeared. I would hope that data from Motionbased will be deemed more complete than these 'summary' activities that the GC plugin created from the device history.

If we could we please have an update on this that would be very useful.

Thanks

RAINTONR I've had the same experience. I can't directly compare my recent long road races to those from earlier years.

To at least alleviate the concern over losing the data, you can export the MB files and save them. I have been gradually exporting old activities as .hst files and importing them into Sport Tracks for safekeeping. I'm down to the ones from 2006 and have a few months left to export 'till they're all safe.

Unfortunately I tried to manually upload these old files as .gpx or .hst into GC, but it was unsuccessful. The FAQ indicated they aren't accepting manual uploads from my unit (Forerunner 305). But at least it helped me feel better to back up all the files that haven't been moved to GC (like century rides, marathons, etc.) Maybe give it a shot...?

    Yes, Update Possible?

Like others, I keep checking Garmin Connect, to see when my MB activities will be migrated. Thought more of them were here tonight, but then realized they were (according to KK in link below) just old activities from the Edge 305, for which GPS tracks/map data was gone.

If we could have an update on migration, that would be nice! Will there ever be ONE place we can go again, for all our activities? Thanks!

    any news?

The waiting on the migration is getting reallllllly old. Any communication would be nice. Its not like we are asking for anything new. We just want what we had a MB.

    this is ridiculous

Still waiting for the migration here too........

I upgraded to the 305 from the 201 in Oct 2007, moved to Garmin Connect in May 2009. None of my MB uploads for the 305 have made it over yet to GC. One would think if GC accepts 305 uploads, then the migration of 305 entries would happen. I hadn't changed any of the setting in the 305.

Unfortunately, I don't have copies any more, didn't think I needed the copies in Training Center when I migrated PC', may have to download a couple of hundred one by one.

Beginning to think they're all lost, including my 2007 MCM.

    Migration

They did post in the Announcements forum on Oct 28 that they have suspended the migration for a while due to some updates. I had been wondering if the migration was simply "dead" but it appears to just have been slow for the big activities and is suspended. They need to keep up the communication like this (maybe even more often) as I thought my activities might have slipped through the cracks but I'll just have to wait for them to transfer.

It's happening. I had 50+ a month or so ago needing to migrate. As of tonight it's down to 8.
  • I still have some activities to be migrated,

Today I tried to view some from last year on motionbased.com, to compare with this seasons runs.

After the front page every page is blank!

I hope that my un-migrated activities are not also a blank page?

    Big activities transferred

The big activities that are the two "marquee" activities that I share have transferred now, just this past week or so. These were two 8 - 9 hour events. So it looks like they are moving along good at least for me.

    Yes--in fact I just have one activity left--and it's from 2005.

I am pleased to [finally] report...

All 472 [beginning 03/11/06] of my MB activities are now here at Garmin Connect. It took a long time. Certainly much longer than I ever expected. It may have been good to have had a forecast of what to expect. Anyway, thanks!!!

Now to the task of using my data...
