Newbie Question - Difference between Garmin Connect and Training Center

I just picked up a Forerunner 305 and I am trying to determine what the differences are between the Garmin Connect website and the Training center software.

Are they different proudcts, compatible, complimentary? Just looking for a little guidance on which to use and why. Or should I use both?

Thanks!

John
  • Complimentary, compatible and rudimentary. I use both just because they are they and provide easy optinos for data storage both online and on computer. If you want more funtionality then you do need to go elsewhere.

As a minimum download/upload activities to both GTC and GC, and back up the data file regularly on the PC/Mac
  • I use both.

I use Garmin Connect for sharing my activities with others and to get the Player and reports offered. Also, I like the Goal tracking on GC.

I use Training Center as an offline back up and to organize my Advanced Workouts and Courses.

  • Seems like I want to use both.

    Thanks for the feedback!

If I have both Garmin Training Center and Garmin Connect running, can I upload data from the device into BOTH simultaneously?
  • You can configure the ANT Agent (Windows) to do that if you have a Forerunner 50, 60 , 405, or 310. But with any other device you will have to do the two separate steps.
  • With the Mac, you get the data uploaded to GC by default. When you open up GTC it brings the activity in automatically.

On Windoze, you need to ensure GTC is not open if you check the boxes to upload to GC and to GTC. GTC will open once the data has been received.
