Touch Screen Flakes Out - Zumo 550

When zooming in and dragging the map on a Zumo 550, the screen suddenly flakes out where after you drag the width or height the map jumps back to where you started the drag. The "Drawing" sign and hour glass appears and as far as I know never finishes. Further, none of the tabs react while it is stuck in this mode. So hitting the back button, the tab highlights although nothing happens.

I have tried resetting personal options, removing all routes, recalibrating the screen, updating software/firmware without success. I have not tried pulling the battery since as luck would have it, I'm in the middle of a two week tour and do not have an Allen wrench with me. I'll buy one if someone tells me this will cure the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.
