Garmin connect web and annoying workout setup issue

Hello,

With last version of Firefox or Safari on 19th of January 2025,  it is not possible anymore to set up easily hh:mm:ss in a personal workout. Please Garmin can you fix it ? Thanks.

  • Am I the only one with this annoying issue ?

  • Are you referring to the fact that the workout builder now uses spinners for entering a time duration (hh:mm:ss) instead of text fields?

I found that the keyboard (including digits, arrow keys and backspace) works with the spinners, on Chrome and Firefox (Windows/Mac), and Safari (Mac).

The only thing that doesn't work is pasting in text of any kind.

Could you please be more specific about what this issue is?

  • Hello.

Yes I’m referring to the workout builder for entering a time duration (hh:mm:ss). From Safari or Firefox with IPad or from Firefox with a Windows PC, I cannot enter with the keyboard for example 00:00:30 nor 01:15:00 nor 00:20:00. If I try entering 15 in minute field the « 1 » is replaced by a « 0 » once I enter the « 5 » and minute field is set with 05 instead of 15. It’s the same behaviour for hh and ss.

I have checked with the pub eraser activated or deactivated, all the cookies are well accepted, and I still have the issue.

Edit: my hour system is 24h, I live in France.

    Thanks.

  • Ah, I see the same problem on iPad (Safari and Chrome, but I assume any iOS browser will have the same problem since all iOS browsers are wrappers around webkit).

It’s super annoying, but it doesn’t happen consistently. It looks like it has something to do with the time values for the fields being recomputed on blur (after each keystroke). Like when I tried to enter something like 5:34, the input fields were briefly changed to something like 0:0:334, but then they reverted to 5:34. I can’t get this kind of thing to happen consistently either.

I don’t see it on PC or Mac tho.

Both my PC and Mac are set to 24-hour time, and I’m in Canada (UTC-5 — New York time). My iPad is also set to 24h, but changing it to 12h makes no different.

I’m guessing that the Connect site is never tested on iPad at all (there’s other issues for sure). If most ppl aren’t seeing this problem on PC/Mac, I bet Garmin has no idea.

  • Thank you. I will check on my PC again but it was not working when I wrote my 1st message. I will try both links you have shared, thanks.

  • Oh yeah, I believe you when you say it doesn’t work for you on PC.

I just don’t know why it works for me and not for you. I tried disabling content blockers on my iPad (not that it should be relevant and it made no difference - the spinners don’t work). AdBlock Plus is active on Connect for both my PC and Mac, and it makes no difference (the spinners work).

I also think that it probably works for most PC/Mac users (e.g. especially Garmin devs/testers) otherwise it’s hard to believe this bug wouldn’t be caught.

If it only happens for iPad (and a minority of PC/Mac users) then I’m not surprised at all it wasn’t caught. I don’t even bother reporting Connect bugs that only happens with iPad tbh.

  • Oh man I can recreate it on firefox for pc/mac now (but not chrome). The key is to type 2 digits in succession, but reallllll slowwwww. If you type too fast on a PC, it doesn’t happen.

Or rather, to avoid the bug, you have to type 2 digits in succession (to set one individual spinner), but with very little delay between them. If you wait long enough between 2 numerical keystrokes, the cursor will automatically move to the next spinner.

The other way to avoid the bug is to use the arrow keys to set each spinner, instead of typing digits.

    Wow this is terrible.

I imagine that issue being more likely on ipad (for me) has to do with timing / CPU speed or something (I am testing my ipad with a physical keyboard, and the bug happens consistently)

I also imagine that when this was tested, it was probably by using arrow keys to set the spinners and not typing individual digits (as the very existence of the spinners seems to be a new thing - I could’ve sworn they used to be numerical input fields before — ofc the irony is that arrow keys should also work with plain numerical input fields).

Oh and I bet this wasn’t tested all that much since clearly the Connect app takes priority over the website. Wouldn’t be surprised if Chrome was the only tested browser.

    Thank you for posting this!

  • Hello,

I confirm with Chrome there is no issue. Issue is only with Safari (tried on IOS IPAD) and Firefox (tried on IOS Ipad and PC windows)

  • If you are talking about the strength workout builder, I gave up with all the bugs and finally found a workaround with this app https://lifttrackapp.com it works on iOS and Android and it’s just so easy to setup a workout in seconds! I don’t understand how garmin is not able to do a simple working interface without introducing new bugs every time.

I know there are several apps for running workouts as well that send them directly to the watch.

For swimming workouts I was using Swim coach which works a bit like LiftTrack https://swimcoachapp.com/
