Cannot Export Running Activity to GPX File

Hi,

I have a problem to export a long, trail running activity to a GPX file.

When I select the menu "Export To GPX" nothing happens.

Here is the link to the activity:

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/17913962992

Best Regards,

Alex Shraib.

  • The track is rather big, and the server seems to be a bit slower than usually, but when I saved your activity as Course, and exported it from the Courses page, it worked. (You can only export directly the Activity as GPX if it is your own one, so the workaround with saving as Course was necessary). It took a few minutes, but after a while, the GPX file downloaded (see the attachment below).

  • Thank you for your help. Actually, do not need the GPX course file, but the activity file, which includes the pace, elevation data, heart rate, etc. Not long time ago, it was possible to open a long activity almost instantly, but now it takes 12 seconds to open a 6 hours run, 30 seconds to open a 12 hours run and 1 minute 30 seconds to open an 18 hours run. I think that the problem is not on the server-side, but most likely on the user-side in a Garmin's Java script. When I try to open a long activity the CPU usage of the web browser jumps to 100% and stays at 100% until the activity is loaded. I have tried it using the latest versions of Firefox and Chrome web browsers with the same result.

  • When I try to open a long activity the CPU usage of the web browser jumps to 100% and stays at 100% until the activity is loaded.

This is mostly caused by the Run/Walk chart - all the thousands of data points are being processed by the browser, in order to show the different stages during the run, and each second is rendered into an individual rectangle. At such big activities it easily overloads the CPU, and it causes the greatest delay.

If you disable the Run/Walk chart, your activity loads within 5-10s. I cannot test whether it helps also with the export (though do not quite believe), but you can give it a try. In any case, once you hit the export option, let it couple of minutes without reloading the page, and on my mind the file will eventually download.

  • How to disable the Run/Walk chart?

  • Wow! Thank you very much for your help! I have disabled the run/walk chart and the activity load time dropped from 1 and a half minute to just 6 seconds!
