Garmin ruined my day

Just spent two hours two minutes with Garmin's Advance Support desk. Basically it appears that there was a firmware upgrade that resulted in my 705's ability to download new activities to Garmin Connect. After being on hold twice for 30+ minutes each - the answer was to turn over control of my desktop to the advanced customer service agent. He then replaced the current version of the newest software with an older version. Now I'm able to download new activities.

THE PROBLEM IS that this resulted in deleting ALL activities from my 705 - including several invaluable rides/races over the course of the past two and a half weeks. No warning on this - all gone. Now I also have to go back and reset all fields, tones, etc on the device.
  • When you connect the Edge to the computer, it should mount as a removable disk. Go into the Garmin folder and within that you will see another folder named History. How many files do you have in there?

    Another option to Garmin?

Is there some forum somewhere else where I can get solid answers and blow off some steam without having Garmin edit my message? It really seems unfair that their mistake is covered up by the "editor" of this forum
  • You may blow off steam in the manner you did anywhere else, but here. The colorful language by which you described the actions will not be tolerated here.

In the same vein, I did reach out to help you a couple posts up. have you considered checking to see if you have any files in the History folder?

I responded to your message via a personal email but... for those who'd like to learn

The short answer is - no - there isn't any history from the missing events. This is a problem created by Garmin and then excaberated by Garmin's Customer Service Center.
  • Sounds like Garmin fixed your GPS. It's not exactly new that such a process deletes history. Not sure why you're mad. I just got my Edge 705 today...and I know to backup history already. I'm still not sure why you're mad. Garmin fixed your GPS and you didn't even have to send it in.

    getsatisfaction.com
    complaints.com

lastly, but probably not appropriate: ripoffreport.com

Most large companies have staff assigned to review these sites as part of the marketing and brand management function. Who knows, you may even get a direct response.

Seems like your problem has been fixed... the loss of data is unfortunate, but you should have those rides on Garmin Connect, or on your PC if you are downloading the info locally.

    NOTE: Edited for language

Lesson to be learned? Back up your Garmin regularly and upload files to Garmin right away if they are at all important to you.
