Fix .fit file for longest run ever?

Hello, Garmin friends--

I ran my furthest mileage ever today to celebrate the end of the year, and the file is corrupted and unable to upload in its entirety to Garmin Connect/Strava. I tried patching it myself with simple tools but was unable to get back more than the first 50 minutes of run time and GPS data.

Would anyone be able and willing to please take a look and see if you can fix my file? I would be very grateful!

Some suggestions to help minimize the occurrence of corrupt fit files on a Forerunner 35

    • Avoid pressing stop or pause during an activity.
    • Sync your watch, backup the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder, then do a full master reset of your Forerunner 35 using these directions - Restoring All Default Settings.
    • Perform a weekly cleanup of the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder using these directions - Removing Recorded Activities to Free Up Space. The F35 seems to have problems with longer activities, so this step is important before a longer event.

  • Hi there,
just like the OP, I have just done my longest run ever. When I finished, I pressed Save. But somehow the activity was not saved properly. I can see the Activity on my watch, but only 1st screen in the summary (including map, distance, pace). All other screens including HR, pace, power, elavation... were gone. And when syncing, it didn't appear in Connect app.
I used my laptop to upload the .FIT file to Connect Web, but it says "This file has already been uploaded". Then I view Details of that .FIT file, it has no data.
The watch still recored steps, calories, training status...
Could you please help me fix this? thank you so much.
My garmin is epix pro 2, just bought 1 month ago. Do you know why this happened?

This has been a common issue in the past month as mentioned in this post - Help Fixing a Corrupt .FIT File

If you indeed successfully repaired the file then uploaded it, you'll get that error, as Garmin partially loaded the initial activity. Suggest following the steps in that linked post to get that corrected. If it's still an issue, use this file, which I tested on my own account, and it uploads without problems - 2025-01-01-12-04-45-fixed.fit

  • Thank you very much. I tried deleting the initial activity in Connect web and reuploaded the file in the Garmin folder, but it didn't work.
Then I uploaded your fixed file and problem solved. I will report this to Garmin.
Thank you so much for your timeHeart

  • It's all there -- wow! Thank you very much, @seilogramp! I'll investigate using your suggestions to troubleshoot my F35. Sounds like another watch might be better suited if I continue doing long runs.

  • The Forerunner 35 has a long history of faulty fit files going back to day one in 2016.

Sounds like another watch might be better suited if I continue doing long runs.

    Definitely. Thumbsup
