Swim 2 GPS tracking data

I have inherited my wife's Swim 2 watch.  I would like to use it to track my hikes and then review them on Google Maps/Earth.

I understand that I must use activities of "Open Water Swim", or "Run" to have the gps operating.

I experimented today by starting an Open Water Swim activity while out for a walk. When returning home, I connected to the watch and I see in "D:\GARMIN\Activity" that I have created a new 2024-12-29-07-53-16.fit file; however, the folder "D:\GARMIN\GPS" is empty.

I can see the activity in Garmin Connect on my android phone, including a map, but it seems I can only "Share" a picture of the map, not the actual GPS track.

Is there somewhere on the watch, or in the app that I can export or download  a .gpx file of the activity track to import into a mapping program ?

As an aside, how can I determine what version of firmware the watch uses?
