Export everything from activities page to Excel

Hi,

I see this has been requested before, but I'd like to request it again. It would be very useful.

I'd like to be able to export my entire history (from the activities list) to Excel. My history is getting rather large and I am worried that if the Garmin servers ever go down catastrophically I would lose it all, so I would like a backup copy in xlsx format.

Hope you people at Garmin can do this at some point. It would be much appreciated.

Many thanks.

p.s - Thanks for coming up with the forerunner 405 cx. This was one expensive watch but it's some of the best money I've ever spent :)

I don't know what they're afraid of. I like GC a lot, but there are things that I'd like to do w/ the data that I can more easily do in Excel. I don't understand how that's a threat to their site.

I'd be disappointed if GC became a subscription service. I dropped $300 on a freaking watch... isn't that enough???

If GC becomes subscription, I'll be downloading the desktop software for my Forerunner.

Well I could be talking rubbish as I can't remember where I read it, but I'm sure I read that they were considering making it a paid for service.

I totally agree with you by the way. My 310xt (which is a superb bit of kit - I love it), cost me £305 with the strap, and I don't think I should have to pay to use GC.

When they first transitioned from Motion Based to Garmin Connect, the eventual plan was to have a free basic service and a subscription-based premium service. However, I think they've fallen behind in developing Garmin Connect, and I haven't heard anything in a long time about the subscription-based option.

As far as Garmin being afraid of people analyzing their data with Excel, I don't think that's the case. It's more likely to be just yet another feature request among many others that they don't have time to implement.

That must be where I got it from.

I just bought my Forerunner 405 and have no activities in my GC yet, but as an excel nerd, I'd LOVE to be able to download all of the raw data directly from GC into Excel (or an Excel-compatible format) once I do so that I could manipulate as I want.

Since clearly others have requested the same functionality, I'll just bump this topic to the top rather than create a whole new thread on a tired subject.

Exporting Activity Data into Excel is certainly a Feature I'd like to Request.

    Thanks!

What i do is simply open the .tcx file in excel, excel can import the format!
and you will be able to crunch all the data you need

This is only useful if you want to export an individual activity or two. I would like, and am assuming this is what the original request is for, to be able to export all my activities (or at least a filtered selection) to do my own analysis where existing reports fall short.

Since I have over 12 years of my daily run/bikes in Excel I have keen interest in exporting Garmin Connect "Activities" to Excel for safe keeping and further analysis. I think logically it belongs in the Reports section as a detailed report type.

As a temporary and imperfect Work Around here is what I am doing to get data into Excel.

    1) At the end of a month and on the Activities screen I set the "show filter" to display the prior months activities. Then sort/add/remove columns appropriately.

    2) Holding the cursor down I select all the displayed rows including titles and do a "Copy".

    3) Paste into Excel worksheet. Delete rows with header garbage and other weird stuff that also gets inserted.

I am using a Mac / Firefox / Microsoft Office.

    *Problems:
    - For some reason if I don't select the titles then all data gets inserted into one single column in Excel.
    - The Activity "Description" cannot be displayed so I can't transfer it.

That's not a bad workaround... Getting a direct download would be better, of course, but I just used your method and it works just fine for now. Thanks for the help.

Also, I didn't need to copy the titles to get the information to paste into separate cells. I'm using IE/Windows XP/Excel '07, so that could make a difference.

    Thanks again!

I agree and add my support to many who have said please, Please, PLEASE...just add a simple Activity download report to Excel. It's not that hard!

    Thanks!

It's a shame that the Garmin developers can't/won't create software that allows end users to maximize use of the data rich devices they've paid big bucks for. What use is all that data if it can't be analyzed in quality software, at best, or via an Excel spreadsheet at worst?
