Resting calories on Garmin Connect

Why do resting calories depend at what time of day I synchronize my Instict 2 watch? If I synchronize it after the morning activity and turn it off for the rest of the day, resting calories are usually bellow 1000 at the end of the day. If I synchronize it in the evening, its above 2000, as it should be. Active calories are counted properly, but resting have no sense at all. Its like Garmin Connect ignores most of the day if the watch is off.

  • Its like Garmin Connect ignores most of the day if the watch is off.

If the Resting Calories are correct after you synced in the evening, as you wrote, then I do not really understand the question.

  • If I synchronize it every day at 11:55 pm, there would be no problem at all. Normally, I synchronize it only after an activity and then I turn it off. If it's at 9 am, my resting calories will be around 800 kcal for that day and will remain on that level, which is totally unrealistic estimate. This was after early morning activity. For the next three days I deliberately synchronized my watch in the evening hour, but I have no intention of doing that every single day just to get 2000 kcal shown on that graph. I thought resting calories are defined by age, weight, activity class, etc, and are not dependant of the watch.

  • Well, the watch is designed to monitor you all day (and night) long. If you are turning it off, the Active Calories (and other metrics) are not counted either, so the Total Calories will never be accurate anyway. Just keep the watch on, and wear it all the time, if you want accurate Calories.
