Only part of the Ride is Mapped

I loaded this activity today and while the data summary shows the true length and time, only part of the activity is mapped. Mapping is not present for the first third or so.

Training Center records the event correctly. It was all a single lap. I've never had this problem before, including data that was migrated. I tried deleting it and reloading - same problem.

Training Center has the proper map?

Can you export the TCX file from Training Center and attach it here? Have you tried to manually upload the TCX file from Training Center to Garmin Connect?

I exported your tcx file from GC and imported it into TC and it only contains 23 miles of the ride. If you look in the Player tab of GC you can see the distance is starting at 12.42 so it looks like the first 12.42 miles are not recorded in the tcx file. Can you upload the original tcx file from the device? I'd like to see if that's the same as the one stored in GC.

Here is the tcx - it gets stranger

So after reading the replies to my post, I opened TC and discovered only part of the ride mapped...as if I was dreaming when I saw the full ride earlier.

So I deleted it and reloaded - the whole ride is mapped again in TC. It's almost as if the file is unstable or something

    The .tcx is attached

There is another user that had this issue with an Edge 305.

You can read the thread here. https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=1189

The final suggestion was to contact Garmin Support and as far as I know, there hasn't been an answer to what's going on.

Can you upload the TCX file manually to Garmin Connect?

    Super strange.

I don't know how to do that. I only know how to pull something out of my 305 using TC or GC.

You have the TCX file already. Use the one you attached here to your message above.

Then go to the Upload page on Garmin Connect.

It doesn't matter what it says for the Default Device. Just click the Manual Upload link at the bottom.

Then Browse to where the TCX file is you want to upload.

    Press Upload Activities from file.

    Data Loss

    Hi,

You'll see that I had the same problem; look for a post titled Data Went Away. I'm suspicious that it might have something to do with Garmin Connect, although admittedly both times I saw this manifest my Edge 305 shut off during my ride (hit a large bump both times).

The oddest part for me was that the data was there when I first uploaded it; I saw the full ride on the map in Training Center. Then I uploaded to Garmin Connect and the data (from the first part of the ride) was gone. Then when I went back to Training Center the data was gone there as well. The only explanation I can think of for this is that the Edge 305 was connected the whole time and (conceivably) something while connected to Garmin Connect messed with the data on the device / TCX file. Seems farfetched even saying it, but I can''t figure out how else it may have happened. AND - the exact same thing happened twice.

    What I've been doing since:
    - I purged all but the last 3 months of data from the device
    - When I return home I export the current days ride immediately.
    - I disconnect the Edge from my computer prior to uploading to Garmin Connect and upload the file manually

This is all probably unnecessary, but so far so good. I also haven't had an instance where the device shut off, so I can't be sure if that has anything to do with it.

Lastly - the folks at the Garmin Support center have been (much to my appreciation) quite responsive. They gave me the following instructions for updating the Edge to the latest version of software...

To update your unit's software, please follow the instruction's below.

    1. Please go to the WebUpdater webpage by clicking on the following
    link: http://www8.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=931.

    2. You will see a link labeled Download, please click on it.

    3. You will be asked if you want to Run or Save the file, please click
    Run.

    4. After the file downloads, you may receive a security warning; if you
    do, please click Run.

    5. Please select your setup language and click Next (the following
instructions are based on the English selection).

    6. You will see a new window; please click Next.

    7. A license agreement will appear; please agree to the terms and then
    click Next.

    8. You will see the destination folder, please click Next.

    9. Click Install; the WebUpdater installation will begin.

    10. After the installation, please ensure that there is a checkmark next
to Yes, I want to launch WebUpdater now and then click Finish.

    11. The WebUpdater program will launch - again, please ensure that your
unit is connected to the computer and turned on.

    12. Click Next; you will then be prompted to select your GPS. Please
select USB Device and then click Next.

    13. A new window will appear with information about the update for your
    unit, please click Next.

    14. A new license agreement will appear, please click that you agree and
    then click Next.

    15. The unit's internal operating system/software (sometimes called
    "firmware") will then be updated.

    16. Once the download is complete, please click Finish.

    17. Please feel free to disconnect the unit; it is ready to use.

    Hope you find this useful.
