Still no cadence for indoor trainer activities

After the recent GC update, I tried uploading another one of my indoor training rides from my Edge 305.

Like the previous version that supposedly supported indoor activities, GC does not display the cadence graph, nor does it appear to store the cadence values in the backend DB. Cadence values don't show up when the activity is exported, so this appears to be an import problem, not a display problem. It also means that uploading indoor activities now is more or less pointless.

I'm very frustrated and disappointed that new features (calendar) and new business partnerships (health) have been released without addressing fundamental bugs like this. I've been waiting for indoor activity support for close to three years, and it's still not here.

the edge 305 only records cadence if you have the speed sensor. the cadence sensor is separate. do you have the speed sensor? also, could you please attach your tcx file so i can verify if your device actually recorded cadence?
also, feel free to use the manual create page to manage your indoor activities http://connect.garmin.com/activity/manual

    Yes, I have the GSC-10 speed/cadence sensor.

All my indoor activities import from the Edge 305 with full cadence data with TC (PC), TC (Mac), SportTracks (PC), and Ascent (Mac). On the Cadence tab, GC only the average cadence for the activity as a whole. It does not show per trackpoint cadence or even the max cadence for the activity.

I'm importing directly from the device with the Communicator Plugin. Do you want me to export a TCX file from one of the above programs and provide that?

I'll pass on the manual input for now. I will concede that the current import is better than that, as it contains speed and heart rate data. Until it gets much better analysis and reporting tools, my main purpose in using GC is to have an online activity archive for data loss / disaster recovery. It not importing cadence makes it not useful for this purpose.

I've done a few more experiments.

I exported one of my non-GPS activities from TC (PC), and even though it imported with cadence the exported *.tcx file did not contain cadence data. TC (Mac) currently doesn't have the ability to export only one activity, so I didn't try it.

I exported the same non-GPS activity from Ascent, and it did have cadence data in the *.tcx file. When manually imported to GC, the cadence data was recorded in the activity.

So it seems there was some problem with the communicator plugin. Further investigation showed I was running an older version, and among the changes listed on the download page:

Changes made from version 2.3.1 to 2.4.1:
    • ...
    • Fixed issue which prevented bike cadence from being retrieved.
    • ...

So while I haven't had a chance to test this, I'm hopeful that it will resolve my problem.
  • ITC (Mac) currently doesn't have the ability to export only one activity, so I didn't try it.

The current 3.0.0.4 beta released recently provides you the option to export selected activity or course.
