Garmin Connect will not sync with Garmin Fenix unless I manually go in and sync via phone

Something has happened to my watch settings overnight. My watch in a Fenix 6 solar. Garmin Connect no long syncs with my watch unless I go in and manually pair it in the settings. Also, the screen has gone a lot darker, like it is in battery saving mode. I have done a restart and a full charge. After full charge it says 48 days left now, whereas it used to say 14 days off a full charge, so there is some battery saving going on, I have tried every option e.g. backlight, and auto sync but it is still one 28 days. I am happy to have higher usage to get a watch that I don't have to manually sync every time!!

It also isn't showing heart rate, health stats and disabled a whole host of other stuff

I have considered a hard reset but I don't want to lose data.

Thanks

  • Have you checked the battery saver and made sure it isn't enabled?

    Customizing the Battery Saver Feature

  • You will not lose any data if you do a factory reset. It is all synced to Garmin Connect. The watch is not for long term storing of data.

  • yep, it isn't

  • You don't lose *irreplaceable* data (that's generated by the watch) but you may have to set some things up again, especially if you don't take certain steps with regards to the backup and restore feature.

You won't lose activity and health tracking data (for the most part), but you will lose settings and Connect IQ apps which have to be manually restored, unless you use the backup and restore feature of your watch: https://support.garmin.com/en-CA/?faq=fLogiPl4Vr5p8u0bFNWmK7. If you use Spotify or any other music provider, I don't know whether this process will restore all your music. Anyone who's used spotify knows how annoying and time-confusing it is to select playlists to sync, so I hope at least the data about which music you've selected is restored (even if the music itself needs to be automatically downloaded again.)

Although backups should be made automatically by default, they don't contain workouts, courses or saved locations, by default. To avoid having to manually sync those again, you might want to enable the toggles to include them in backup. Note that if you've synced your watch with the Garmin Explore mobile app, then it won't be possible to include courses or locations in the backup, as Garmin wants you to manage those via Garmin Explore. Ppl have found that the only way to undo this state is to remove the device from Explore *and* reset the device to factory settings.

Activity and health tracking data will be automatically restored via the Physio TrueUp / Unified Training Status feature, although I think you may only get back 1 week or so of activity history on your watch. (Newer devices typically show about 1 month of history in the UI, and keep activity for several months. Of course all of your activities should be in Connect).

If you have an older watch that only supports TrueUp and not Unified Training Status, then certain things like HRV Status and Training Readiness won't be restored. Very old watches don't support any of these features, but I think Fenix 6 supports all of them.

So I can def understand the reluctance to do a factory reset. You may not lose any irreplaceable data, but you have to set some things up again or at least use backup / restore to make sure your settings are restored.

  • Thanks, I went for it. Having to set some things up again, but generally working fine now

  • All sorted now, thanks for your help
