How to track steps in indoor walking (walking pad)?

Hello, I have Epix Gen 2 Watch and HRM Pro Strap.

I bought new walking pad and Iam using it while working on PC few hours a day.

I would like to track steps, distance and calories in my Garmin. How can I do that?

I have found activity "Indoor Walking", but I have several problems:

  • Steps are showing 0
    • And steps are not visible in Garmin Connect in activity results
    • I have tried some app from Garmin Connect IQ which adds "Steps+" to Garmin Connect summary, but it's still 0
    • Even with HRM Pro Strap steps are 0
  • Distance is showing 0
    • I tried to enable my HRM Pro Strap but the cadence and distance are way off, showing almost 2,5 times more than reality
      • For example I walk 2.0 km/h on my walking pad but avg speed measured by HRM Pro Strap is 5.2 km/h
      • When I disabled Distance tracking in sensor settings, distance was again 0

How can I solve those problems? Is there some kind of device I can put on my leg to count distance and steps and sync it with Garmin Connect?

Thank you

  • Yeah, but the annoying thing is that it is actually counting steps - that's how it works out the cadence :-)  It would be possible to derive the number of steps by using the cadence data and the distance/time as measured by the treadmill, it's just that there's no way of getting this into Connect.

  • Yeah it's obviously limited by design, not by necessity. Same as the Garmin footpod, HRM-RUN and HRM-TRI all measure cadence but the device won't use them as a source for steps.

I think the HRM-PRO is an exception because Garmin figures everyone has one of their older chest straps, and they wanted to give users a reason to buy the new strap (hence the ability to count steps and other activity tracking data while the watch is being worn).

But even HRM-PRO won't be used for steps while you're wearing the watch.
