I emailed Tanita directly and got the following reply:

    Subject: Tanita Question / BC-1000

Hi, Here are answers to your questions:

Currently the BC-1000 does not communicate with the FR305 Garmin watch, only the FR60 and 310xt models have the scale function.

The BC-1000 is only available in the US and Canada through US retailers and www.thecompetitiveedge.com

Also, the scale does not talk to MAC computers, but can communicate to Garmin Connect through the FR60 or 310xt downloads.

Let me know if you need more information on this product.
    Regards,

    well done Garmin.

    buying in EU

Does anyone know if the mains will allow for a 230v outlet? I'd like to buy it in the US and then bring it back with me to the UK but would hate to find out I can't plug it in out here.
  • The scale runs on six volts -- four AA batteries.
  • Also, the scale software will not work on Vista 64 bit currently. I recently had an e-mail exchange with Tanita, and they have a software update they will be releasing that will introduce that capability.

Furthermore, the scale REQUIRES the FR60 or FR310xt watches to transfer to GC. This is not made clear ANYWHERE, but I just got mine and can only use the Healthy Edge software on my 32 bit machine, not my 64 bit one. Getting it working was a bit of an adventure because that's not covered in any of the print materials you get. Not sure if it's covered anywhere on the CD full of pdf's that came with it, but I figured out in about as much time as it would have took to dig through those files to find it.

BC-1000 : Relevance of Stride Length Setting

I am using BC-1000 along with Garmin USB dongle and Healthy Edge software for more than a year and very happy with the setup.

BC-1000 insists that we set a value for the 'stride'. This is somewhat inconvenient while taking the set of 9 readings for a GUEST. So, I am inputting an arbitary value of about 30% of height and I am getting the set of 9 readings.

I assume that the 'Stride length' is used in calculating the distance run and calories spent only and NOT in calculating any of the Body composition Analysis readings given out by BC-1000.

Please clarify if my assumption is correct. Thanks in advance for any inout.
