Streetpilot c340 wont hold charge

Hi, on a recent trip my c340 went dead without any low battery warning. It would not recharge in the car, so i assumed it was just a problem with the cig lighter adapter. However i can charge the unit using USB and although it reads "Charging battery" - when i remove it from the USB connection it won't power on. Ive tried leaving it charging like this for 24 hours even. Does this mean the battery in it has gone? I have also tried the "reset" solution i found on the garmin site to no success.

Just wondering - if this does mean the battery has gone, what are my options? The unit isnt that old but out of warranty by now. Would it be even worth paying for a unit repair as ive noticed the price of GPS' now are so much lower. (I originally payed 500 bucks for mine about 4 years ago)

Thanks for the help.
