Development Team are you reading these requests?

Is anyone from the Garmin development team reading these feature request postings??
I would guess not judging from the latest update! If you read the postings in this forum for feature requests top of the discussion are not:
  • Calendar view,
  • tracking health,
  • assigning location automatically and
  • bulk delete

You did get it right with the manual activity entry but other than that just a cursory browse of the forum by the Garmin staff would show that these are the things people are screaming for:
  • More accurate elevation correction
  • Pace and Speed optional views
  • Moving time
  • Weather data
  • User defined splits (post activity)
  • Ability to edit incorrect data points

Please don't ignore your customers we only want the Garmin connect site to be the best!!
  • So if I've only got 10 points to spend, guess I'd put them on a few of the OP's list but swap in a few of my own.

    • More accurate elevation correction (as a forerunner user this gets 2 points)
    • More Customizable/save-able reports (this is a big want so this gets 2 too)
    • User defined splits (post activity)
    • Ability to edit incorrect data points
    • Weather data
    • Ability to compare 2/multiple activities
    • Equipment tracking (could be included in 2)
    • More robust search capabilities

    about the 10 points system:
If Garmin was using the reference I posted earlier (quoted bellow),
Once one of the feature you voted on is implemented, you get back the points you used for that feature and can use them for another feature.

  • STEVEKN,

You can add the indoor activity using the Manual Activity feature.

Thanks I have added a couple of manual non garmin activities yesterday.

I could not however see how to add the heart rate v time as recorded by my FR305 onto the manual activity.
(I assumed that after the upgrade I could upload a non-gps activity directly from my 305)

I tried to look again now, but that part of the site is down again.

As for the product being "free" (I'm sure the purchase price of the devices have an element added for the connect site, together with advertising etc.)

I am a fully paid up member of motionbased to which I can no longer upload. My subscription is to be transferred to connect when it becomes a subscription service too.

We therefore have an interest in getting the site to provide facilities (or even better we hope) that we contracted to receive with motionbased.
  • I am amazed at the tone of some of the postings here. Individuals post their own preferences and howl when their own priorities are shared by development and executed to their taste. I for one am enjoying the evolution of GC. Don't like it; don't use it. It didn't cost you a penny.

I haven't seen any howling, and I think it's good that Garmin's customers use this forum, "Feature Requests", to let Garmin know what they want from Garmin Connect.

"It didn't cost you a penny": Well, since all Garmin users were forced from MotionBased to Garmin Connect, and quite a few MB features disappeared, I understand that some users are asking for those features to reappear on Garmin Connect.

As long as the Mac version of Garmin Training Center is so simple, Garmin Connect is the only "free" solution for viewing and analyzing data. Byuing Ascent, iSMARTtrain or other software in addition to my 310XT was not my plan.

I hope Garmin will provide more features both in GTC for Mac and on GC, and in the meantime I'll work on accumulating data
  • Hi DW152,

That will be addressed in a future release. Apologies to the swimmers! :o

    Thanks!!

I have to argue with you on this one. Yes we don't pay a penny for it, but that doesn't me it was free.

Garmin describes Garmin Connect as an integral feature of the product. It shows up as part of the features of the product. Moreover, the program is actually listed in the manual as the way to create advanced workouts.

I would argue that it has replaced Garmin Training Center (which is listed as Optional as opposed to Garmin Connect which sounds like its included as part of the product). It was better when MotionBased was a standalone product, in that case, yes it’s a free service use it if you want. Now, you’re saying we didn't pay for it, but we actually have.

    Hi Steve,

Sorry, didn't read this correctly the first time . . . you DID have on your FR305. For some reason it was read as a GPX file. If you upload to Training Center, did it upload properly? If so, export the activity and attach it to this thread. I'll take a look at it.

    1. Open the Garmin Training Center.
    2. Select the day you want to export by right clicking on it in the listing.
    3. Select Export.
    4. Save to Desktop.
    5. Send it here.

This is great news as I should like to upload non gps gym cardio work.

Today I did 4K on an elliptical trainer, I have just tried to upload this non-gps activity. It was read from my FR305, but seems stuck at the upload.

Is this because the site is still recovering from its remedial work or cannot it yet upload these activities?

Would I then be able to manually add the distance to my time splits?

thanks for your prompt reply KK

The activity did successfully upload to Training Centre, I am however on a mac (OS10.5.8, (soon to be 10.6 but I hear there are problems!), Safari 4.0.3) and as you know that version of TC will not export an individual activity, but the whole history.
I'll try some xml editing and repost.

  • Steve, Garmin Communicator is not compatible with Snow Leopard yet.

The current version of the Garmin Communicator Plugin is NOT compatible with Snow Leopard, due out Friday 28 August. We are currently working on a new version of the Plugin that will be compatible. We plan on getting this out in the next 2 weeks. We'll post updates as they become available.
  • Thanks Saeedi: Steve, Garmin Communicator is not compatible with Snow Leopard yet. My upgrade is in the post so I'm still on leopard. i assume Apple did not give Garmin a beta Snow Leopard to test?

I tired again uploading the FR305 non gps activity to connect thismorning after my last post and it worked!
Must be the gremlins in the works since the "upgrade"

    http://connect.garmin.com/activity/11979931

If I select splits, it lists all my 20x 200m splits,
I can highlight the zero distance, but I am unable to manually add it. is this correct?

Also If you got to player, you have to hit HR graph twice to get a selector for time rather than distance, change this to time, then hit hr graph again to get the hr v time plot. I'm sure that's not right?
