Broadcast HR + Zwift + GC

OK, so I have a question.

Slightly frustrated at Garmin's insistence that only activities recorded using a Garmin device count towards challenges and badges, but fair enough that is a commercial choice they have every right to make. However, one aspect of Garmin's relationship with third party apps intrigues me.

When I use Zwift, I broadcast my HR from my Forerunner 265. It connects easily and the Zwift activity records the HR exactly as I would expect. However, when the activity is synced from Zwift to GC, it ignores the HR data altogether, as if it wasn't recorded at all. On Strava, OTOH, the data is there.

Is there a reason why GC specifically excludes the HR data when produced in this way, as Zwift activities undertaken using my chest strap to record HR include all of that data without any issues?

Thanks,
David

  • Quick update ... actually, doesn't appear to be that simple. The trace disappears at 2:08, but also disappears on Strava at the same time (and Strava has estimated the rest for some reason). Looks like it might have dropped the BT connection, and not reconnected properly as the rate was definitely shown on screen through the entire activity. Guess this is a question for Zwift rather than GC.

If you want the badges or challenges, nothing can stop you from recording the activity with your device (or with the Tacx app), even if you use Zwift.

However, when the activity is synced from Zwift to GC, it ignores the HR data altogether, as if it wasn't recorded at all.

I'd check the privacy settings at Zwift. Normally, the HR data is there, but perhaps the sharing of the HR is now disabled by default for privacy reasons (Strava does it for shared activities by default too). Otherwise you are right, it looks more like a question for Zwift.
