Manual Input of (More) Health Data

Why can't I enter my body fat, water, mass etc? I already have scales that give me all this info, I don't ever plan on upgrading to your US$250 scales to do this.

The graphs within the Health section don't work in IE8.

Also why can't I enter my body fat, water, mass etc? I already have scales that give me all this info, I don't ever plan on upgrading to your US$250 scales to do this.

    Jimmedy-
Add me as a +1 on your scale comment...I have a tanita BC-549 Ironman scale which provides all the information. I just need to be able to enter it!

The scale is from Tanita (from the Health Page - "With TANITA BC-1000 Body Composition Monitor and a compatible Garmin watch, all 9 measurements can be tracked wirelessly on Garmin Connect Health."). If you have one of the compatible devices then this info will update automatically. The supported devices at this time are the FR60 and the FR310XT. We may offer the ability to to manually enter the health information in the future.

So what you're really saying is that "Health" is a business partnership masquerading as a feature.

This decision does not just limit the function to owners of the "supported" device, in my opinion it also unnecessarily limited the scope of the feature.
There are many physiological metrics that one might want to track (blood pressure, skinfold caliper measurements, etc.) that can and should be available, but are not, presumably because the Tanita scale can't measure such things.

And I have nothing against Tanita, I have a BC 554 that I like very much (which, btw, can display those metrics that you don't allow us to enter by hand). I do have something against Garmin, which like with New Leaf only metabolic profiles, chooses to put exclusive business relationships ahead of customer facing features.

Manual Input of (More) Health Data

Latest update has fitness data from Tanita scales supported, & has manual input for weight.
Would suggest manual input availability for all categories - I have body composition scales (but not from Tanita), so could also input body fat%, Water content % etc
  • Agree with all the comments so far.

If you're going to add a feature for a scale that a lot of people use, you should open the feature up to those people. Whilst I appreciate the specific features of the two Garmin products are integrated with the Tanita scale, I suspect this capability will only serve a very small minority of your users.

I have several running and cycling Garmin products, and think you should open this up so I can manually insert this data from my Tanita scale. I think I've spent enough money and no doubt will continue to do so, to have this small addition open for me and others like me. Or give me a "tick box" to remove the display from my screen, I don't want to be taunted by what I can't have.

  • +1 for that

I have scales that report everything the Tanita BC-1000 does, but I can only enter weight here. Should I use an Excel spreadsheet for keeping track of the other data? Doesn't make sense.. ;-)
  • 8/25 update suggestions...

First, thanks to Garmin for the update, any and all improvements are appreciated!

I have had limited time to look at the update, however....while some of the features are very exciting, I thought there were some obvious short comings.

    • I already own a Tanita Ironman BC-549 scale which provides all the information on the health page. While it would be nice, I have no intention to upgrade for wireless transfer. Allowing me to manually enter all those fields seems like a no-brainer.

    body fat editable

I love the new health tab...that covers nearly everything I need.

I have an older tanita scale that gives weight and body fat percentage. I'd love to be able to enter both manually.

As do I. There are also many other ways to measure body fat. I don't know why they didn't make that or the body water field editable. My Tanita also measures body water content.

Another puzzler is why though also don't allow tracking of mileage per bike for the Edge 305/605/705 since these devices allow multiple bike settings.
  • All fields should be editable

    Why is only weight editable?
I'd like to enter/edit all fields.
