Average Moving Speed

I really miss the Average Moving Speed information from MB and I know this has been discussed before and that GC is supposed to add the feature at some point. My question is " Is there another software program right now that will give that information"? It is not in GTC, SportTracks or Cyclistats unless I am missing something. I know I can use the Auto Pause function on my Edge 705 but that seems to have more problems then it is worth so I have always depended on software to find the solution. Any help here?
  • If you have a Mac, you can get Ascent, which calculates both average overall speed and average moving speed.

Thankfully this is there (well for the Garmin 305 it is). It is under the map in the box titled 'timing'

The "Timing" box indicates average speed, not average moving speed. Average speed factors in all stops, where average moving speed does not. Not sure how having a 305 vs 705 would show different results in GC.

I am now trying to find Average Moving Speed in Activities - is this really not an option to add?  I see that this post is now 11 years old, hopefully NOW in 2020 there is a way to add this?  Any suggestions?

Yes, of course: open the Activities page in Garmin Connect Web, and it is right there in the chart.

And then, of course, it is also in the detailed pages of each individual activity. Speed is used at cycling, 1km or 1mil  pace at run and walking, and 100m/100y pace at swimming.

If you filter the activities by category, using the buttons above the chart, you can adjust the visible columns by clicking the symbol on the right side of the chart header, and add the average speed, if it is missing for the concerned activity type.
