Garmin Connect vs. Training Center

As a brand new user, what do I need to know about Garmin Connect vs. Garmin Training Center? Obviously Garmin Connect is the web based program, and Training Center is an application, but they have a slightly different feature set and I'm curious the recommended use of one vs. the other? It seems like all or most of the development efforts are going into Garmin Connect, does that mean it will eventually replace Training Center?

Help please...

I currently use both right now.

I use Training Center as local storage for my activities. I also use it for managing courses and Advanced Workouts.

I use Garmin Connect as my web-based tool to be able to see my activities from any computer, share them, set up goals and run reports.

  • Thanks for the reply. I guess I'd rather see Garmin Connect assume all of the functionality that Training Center has, so that I only need to upload my workout to one spot. Maybe that's already the gameplan - I can't seem to find any development road map for Training Center, whereas it's clear that Garmin Connect is a work in progress.
  • We've had Garmin devices in the house now for the past 4 years. Only ever used Training Centre for backup storage of data and sending workouts to the devices. Garmin Connect is new but limited. Maybe it will get better and more functional.

In the meantime, SportTracks (Windoze but running on a Mac with Parallels) and RunSaturday.com meet our requirements.
