Garmin - Is this nonsense for real??

As a runner and a software professional, I am truly amazed at the completely AMATEUR management of this transition / migration from Motionbased to GC. How so? Let me count the ways:

1. You are NEVER allowed to de-feature a product that a customer has already paid for and is actively using.

2. You either have migrated the data or you haven't. I'm missing my data since 6/30. It's completely ridiculous to say 'we got most of it and the rest will come later sometime'. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.

3. BUGS! Where is your SQA team? What is your change control system? Do you have quality criteria / metrics that you have to meet in order to release something to the public? How can you let this poor quality software see the light of day??

4. In light of the MISSING FEATURES AND MISSING DATA AND BUGS for GC, you don't cutoff customers from the system that works. That was a really DUMB management decision.

You should go into damage control mode and re-enable MB right away. Then, you can go figure out how to get a new software development team.

Otherwise, can I please have my MotionBased money back?
  • Based on your previous posts,
are-you not forced to use MB (what you paid for ),
because your devices are not supported in GC ?

If this is not the case, you should start a new thread with you actual issue,
and contact support, maybe someone here could help you.

If the issues is you cannot use GC yet:
in the interim, MB should be fine since you already accepted that solution sometime ago ?

I am in no way trying to upset you, but I do not understand your message...
Are you anticipating dissapointment once you are forced to use GC ?,
or would you gladly live with theses limitations, and are frustrated because
    you cannot use GC?
There are frustrating limitation in GC, which is a WIP (work in progress),
but you are not exposed to them yet, and hopefully never will be :)
I must be missing something here...

Respectfully, it would be a lot easier to "get over" if GC worked with any of my three Garmin devices. Since it does not, and since I'm still out $100 that I paid for my MB Pro subscription, I think I, and others like me, are entitled to some venting on these forums.

If you bought a new Cadillac and were "upgraded" to a Ford Escort and told to "just get over it", you'd be a bit miffed as well. MB was leagues ahead of GC, and even discounting features, there are still several Garmin products that GC doesn't even work with.
  • WATCHMERUN;

    Guys (and gals)....

You must know the 80/20 rule of products. With GC, it is probably more like 95+% of people which are happy

I love people who post statistics with out any data. Maybe you should work for GC

Imagine for a second you just bought your first Edge, you never knew you could track your rides with GPS - and upload to a website - and see maps and charts online? This is pretty amazing stuff and very high tech. :D

I bought my edge because someone showed me MB

Could GC be better? Yeah... probably. I'm sure the coders are doing their best. Like every business Garmin needs to make a decision where to spend money,

How do you know the coders are working hard? They can't even update the " what's new" page to keep their customer updated!!!! That cost nothing

    So... MotionBased is gone....

    Respectfully,

    get over it.

    somebody had to say it.

I would love to get over it but you are missing the point. GC promised a comparable product and I took them for their word and continued to upload a massive amount of data. Now since i have continued to upload data and have to find a new solution, there is more data to move thus giving me the right to complain.

So respectfully don't post statistics without supporting data and don't tell users that have basically been lied to "get over it"

I'm with you Heatwave. Unfortunately Garmin allows their marketing people to dictate policy which almost certainly makes good financial sense for them (even though I don't like it).

My PC runs on windows 2000 so I'm hosed from the get go, but, I'm in the minority so what does Garmin care?
  • Please address our concerns

I would like to start by saying I understand that the moderators of this forum do the best they can BUT I would like for someone that is a full time employee of Garmin to address these questions in their entirety as I have seen them posted by multiple users. If you do not know the answer then please contact the group that does know the answer and respond with the date you think that you can address the question.

    1) When does GC “Garmin Connect” expect to make good on the promise that GC will have all of the features that customers enjoyed on MB “MotionBased”?

    2) When does GC expect complete the data migration from MB? Please don’t post a link to the out dated update in the announcements.

    3) Since Oct of last year this site has had an enormous amount of down time unexpected and planned. What is GC’s uptime SLA’s and what steps are being taken to prevent these outages going forward?

    4) Why was the decision made to put non-GC employed moderators on a customer facing site and then not provide them a method to contact GC to obtain answers for questions that they don’t know?

    5) Thus far GC has provided very limited updates, are there any plans to change this or does GC feel the current that their customer receive an acceptable amount of updates?

    Totally Frustrated please respond moderator.

Can a moderator honestly reply, when will the data be transferred to GC? I mean really how hard that can be. I’ve been involved in software projects; enterprise software for close to 20 years now. This transition in many ways has been so painful. If my team were involved in a deployment of this type we would be looking for new employment.

I know I am being critical and yes I am excited about the new GC but. I don’t get it? Was it a financial agreement or contract issue that led to deploying GC prior to it being ready? Please help in setting expectations. When will “all” the data be transferred into GC? That would be a big step forward. Or as a stop gap, get MB stable enough so we can access our data from there.

What good was collecting the data if we can no longer access it? And please don’t respond by saying how much of the data has already been transferred. I can look at my activities and clearly see how much data has not been transferred. Of course the data I’d like to access always turns out to be one of the events which I can not access.

Ok I’m done ranting …….for now
  • Can a moderator honestly reply, when will the data be transferred to GC?

Maybe, but the non-Garmin employee moderators have no more knowledge about migration time-lines than what has already been posted. So all I could do would be to point you to the posts and sites that explain the migration process. I'm sure you've already read all of those.

Very high tech? Then why is it that in MB I could save a jpg of my elevation profile to utilize on MountainBikeTx.com, but now I would have to send users to the GC site to view it? So yes, it is amazing, amazing that the usability of my Garmin device in regard to providing data for my website has been diminished by this "upgrade."
  • I want my $2...

    (1) I want my money back! I paid for MB thru Sept 2011.

    (2) I want my data! Since I paid for MB, I would expect MB to either stay avaible for me, or else be notified of exactly when MB was going to be killed, so that I could have extracted my data....since it's MY data!

Now I'm hosed....I've lost $200+, and my data (cause it still hasn't been moved over and MB is dead).

I've been patient (not having said one negative thing about this transition). I've been cooperative (having "gone with the flow" and just starting using GC, no questions asked).

Now I'm upset....when I can't compare this years Labor Day 5K result to last years results.....

Training Peaks may have a new customer soon.
