Goal progress on dashboard

The goal progress graphic on the dashboard is a nice feature showing whether you're on target to meet your monthly goal. Unfortunately, it seems to be a bit flawed. The line showing "today" doesn't seem to ever be in the right position. For example, today is the 16th August and the line is showing at 46.2% along the scale. Maybe my timezone is a factor - I'm in the UK.

Anyone know what's going on?

Many thanks, Julian
  • Possibly one of your actives were of a type not specified in your weekly goal?
  • No, it's not the green bar showing my progress that's the problem - that's spot-on. It's the vertical black line annotated as "today" that I'm referring to. This is only dependent on today's date surely?

I guess the idea is that if your green progress bar extends as far as the "today" line then you're on track for your monthly target. However, this doesn't work if the "today" line is not in the correct position.

    Any other thoughts?

    Many thanks,

    Julian
  • Here's an attachment showing what I mean. The "today" line's not moved since this morning, so I assume it doesn't move continually.
  • The vertical black line indicates where you would be if you were on target for your goal. I assume your goal is to ride 100 miles in 30 days. If so, then you should be half way done with 50 miles in the bank and 50 miles remaining and 15 days remaining. Not sure though, just extrapolating from what I see.
  • Absolutely! The black line should show where I should be in my monthly goal. So, regardless of how far I want to run in a month, on the 16th day of a 31 day month, the line should be 16/31ths of the way along the progress bar. It's clearly below halfway today. Why would that be?

I'm planning a 10mile run later on today. When I upload it, the green bar will extend to exactly half way along. This will be past the black "today" line and will imply that I'm slightly ahead of my plan. I'm not though am I? We're past the half-way point of the month, so I should have done more than 50miles in total.

I like the idea of the feature, it just doesn't work properly.

    Thanks again, Julian
  • Will this be reported as a bug?

    Hi Seilogramp,

Just wondering whether discussing bugs on the forum leads to them being raised as bugs with Garmin. Do the moderators work for Garmin and pass on the discussed bugs?

Would be nice to think someone's looking into fix the position of the "today" line on the dashboard goal view.

    Cheers, Julian

There is a chance, but no guarantees. As far as I know (not a Garmin employee), the forum is not "officially" monitored and tracked the way phone calls or emails to customer service are.

Discussing bugs here is a good thing to do as sometimes there are work-arounds and the like, but you should still raise issues to Garmin Connect Support directly, especially if you don't have an answer from RunKKRun or somebody else with Administrator or Garmin Support in their title.

Sometimes I'll report issues to support, especially if I can reproduce them on my own units, but I don't work for Garmin and I don't report every issue, especially if I can't reproduce it.

  • Would not a good solution be that Garmin support DID read these forums, the would then appreciate how disillusioned every one is with connect.

After all it is THEIR Forum.

Last time I tried notifying support about anything, it took me 4 emails to get a relevant answer.

I'm not saying that Support does not read the forums. I'm just saying it's good to use both.
