Hide start/finish points.

Gday guys.

Loving the new website.

While the activities are available to the public - it would be nice to be able to "hide" the start/end points of a trip, as most of us would usually start/end from home, and would probably like to keep our home addresses private.

Just a suggestion!

Cheers.

  • Your best bet is to start and stop the timer a block or two away from home. Some of us aren't as concerned.

I think this would be a nice feature also

Yeah, can do that - but can lose some data, and Im flat out remember to turn it on most of the time.

But, for some of the activities we have on here, would be nice to just tick a tickbox with "hide/show start/end points from public" and just have them fade off or something.

I have my rides default to private and only make public those that I don't mind having everything shown. Means there are less activities in the public eye. In my case, though, nobody would want to trace my route, so it's not very interesting to have in the public Explore.

I would like a different level of privacy, though, so I can share the rides with buddies or via email for people that might be interested and I know won't come kill me in my sleep. ;)

I thought of this too, as I posted my first ride, that showed exactly where my house was. A way to simply trim the beginning/end of a ride would be awesome. I'd be fine with trimming the data as well.

Another reason to do this is to cut out your warmup/cooldown so you can get better average speed numbers (read: higher). For now, I will warmup off the clock, so to speak.

    Well,
I am not too appealed by home intrusion,
but I miss the good old times when horse stealing was almost a legitimate
    business... watch your horses :D

Bringing this thread back to the top. Strava (http://www.strava.com/) does this nicely... Can we get similar functionality for GC?

I find it hilarious that forum moderators suggest a manual workaround to what seems to be a valid feature request. I just came back to using Garmin Connect ... but on discovering this simple privacy feature isn't available, I doubt I will continue using it - I'll just go back to using Strava alone. That in turn means that as far as services that come with it, there is little driving me to stick with a Garmin device when I decide to upgrade from my old Edge 305. Are you reading this Garmin? Your arrogance in dismissing users requests for reasonable features that other sites are able to offer (and I see there are several threads where this has been raised) is going to end up costing you some of your customers. Or are you happy to just put this in the too hard basket? You should view it as an opportunity to flag an improvement in the site and offset the widespread bad publicity about garmin connect and privacy.
  • And I find it hilarious that people see this as such a problem! So people can see where I start and finish most of my training sessions. Does that tell them anything other than that's where I live? Anybody at any time can park in my street and work that out for themselves.

if you feel that bad about it, don;t make your activities public. Easy. Sorted. No problem.

    Bigger things to worry about.
