Peak performace details based on Averages and Max values!

Would it be possible to add peak performance details for an activity by calculating the best average and max values over a set of fixed durations? e.g. best average Speed/HR/Power/Cadence - over 5s/30s/1m/5m/30m durations.

It would be even better if we could then compare these peak values across activities to monitor improvement.

Many times I go out for a 45 minute run where I warm-up for the first few minutes and cool down for the last few, which leaves about 30mins of actual real effort - it is this part of my run that I would like to compare across activities over time. Likewise during interval sessions I would like to know best efforts for shorter durations. A 5-10sec period is great for assessing best sprint efforts in cycling.

Have you tried using the warm up and cool down features in your device? The 405 has this but I never use it. I just start and stop the watch for the primary part of the run and ignore the rest since it isn't really interesting to capture.

Thanks for reply - Yes I have used warm-up and cool-down but that isn't the issue. My problem is that by doing slower sections in an activity your peak performances are masked or averaged out as lower values that can no longer be usefully compared to previous activites.

One day I may warm-up for 5 mins and on another I may warm-up for 20mins the main part of my run (say 30mins) could then be exactly the same on both days but the data displayed on Garmin Connect in the activities summary would correctly show different averages - but I would like to see how well I performed over 30mins in both activities.

This is something that I already can do with my cycle rides in the CycleOps PowerAgent software whcih records the best averages and maximums over pre-defined time periods. It also shows graphs of these peak values over time so you can get a great idea of how your performance is improving (or not) over different intensity periods.
