Upload GPX files

Former Member
You asked for these as separate threads so I am doing just that.

The GPX format seems to be one of those common formats yet GC doesn't accept files in that format. GC has no meaningful error msg on uploading that explains anything, so I am assuming it is because of it being a GPX file.

I would like to upload my activities that are saved as a GPX file. MapMyRun or MapMyRide only save in this format, also that's about all SportTracks does, and ditto for OziExplorer.

Convert GPX to something GC understands?

Is there a way to convert a GPX file to something GC understands "now" rather than later? I tried changing the file extension...after all it is an ascii file...and that didn't work.

I cycle and run everyday and going back to upload all this stuff months from now is not good. I'll do a separate post on getting SportTracks into GC.

    Import SportTracks History to GC

This would be low on the list I suspect, but it wouldbe nice to be able to suck in SportTracks activities into GC.

The really neat thing about SportTracks is that it lets you merge data from the Garmin 205 (soon to be 310XT) and my Suunto T6. :D

  • I'm looking for something to do just that. I have found this which I am yet to try, but looks promising. Appears to be for a Mac but there must be WIndows apps around too.

I've combined these into one thread as Sportracks exports data as a GPX file. I've long thought there should be a TCX export plug-in for Sportracks. If I had unlimited time, I might attempt such myself. ;)

Having GPX uploads would be nice, although, it's doubtful GPX uploads to GC would support all the extensions that can be put into GPX. However, it would be nice.

In the meantime, the thing to do is look for a converter that can translate one file type into a TCX that GC can accept.

kk mentioned an API that's being built into Garmin Connect that I find interesting and might have some interesting applications for 3rd party apps like Sportracks.
