MotionBased better than Garmin Connect

I have used Garmin connect for a few weeks now. I used to use MotionBased. I made the change because MotionBased would no longer accept Garmin fitness device uploads. I am happy with my Garmin device. I was excited to see what unique features the Garmin connect web site had in store and was very disappointed.

Why would Garmin force us to move to the Garmin Connect website? Are they looking for more control over their user population? Why couldn't they provide a comparable experience to MotionBased?

I believe this is an effort by a group of corporate nobody's that work for Garmin. I assume they don't even ride. If they did they wouldn't be putting us through this. MotionBased is much better and it is upsetting to see a decent product vendor make a mis-step like this.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a comparable device to the Garmin 305? I am willing to put the 305 on the scrap heap for something else that works for biking and running.

BTW, Let's get Christian Vande Velde another sponsor!

Thanks,
David

Couldn't agree with you more. Motionbased player for example allowed comparison of rides over the same route so I could see where I could improve. The map view is too small in whichever window you choose to view it. It doesn't show gradient so I am forced to analyse rides using training centre (which lacks print commands so is mostly useless) and Garmin Connect. The activities table is hard to use and the search parameters don't work properly, so using BOOLEAN terms does not return the rides you want. I am having to use some very long ride descriptions to put in key words so that I can compare results.

As some one involved in the IT world it is very sad to see the User Requirements specification so poorly implemented (assuming they used Motionbased as the start point).

Having said all that the 705 is a wonderful training tool and Garmin Connect is free.

    regards

I have to agree with you guys.... I'm really shocked at how poor GC is compared with Motionbased !.... To say GC is a retrograde step is an understatement in the extreme... it lacks pretty much all the key features of motionbased.... and how many years have they been developing the thing !!!!

... Ive still got over 100 of my activities (about a 3rd) still to be migrated across, and I'm starting to think this is never going to happen before my 305 gives up the ghost (its over 3 years old)... if my 305 dies, i'm seriously wondering about alternatives to a Garmin product.....

... real shame, but this is very very poor customer service :(

I agree that GC is not MB yet, but I have some high hopes. If they are using all the resources we can hope for the best.

As for print, I use the print screen command and then transfer to paint to print.

Just a thought, PM if you need assistance doing it.

While you're waiting for GC to be worthwhile, try SportTracks. Not perfect, but way ahead of GC.

Yes and no sharing. I used it for a bit but just use TC on the computer.

    Garmin Connect programmers don't exercise

DEPORTEN said this above and I think he hit on it. It is the ONLY rational explanation for how a company could possibly take something like MB and throw its users under the bus with something like Garmin Connect.

No, I don't like it. I am becoming rather accomplished with Sport Tracks. You can upload them but I have not figured that part out yet. Sport Tracks is light years ahed of wither MB or Garmin Conect.

I hope Garmin doesn't buy them and screw it up.

    GC needs major work

I agree with all the above posts.
  • I'll 200th the motion

GC is pretty useless. Slow, rather featureless. Makes you wonder what Garmin is thinking about. Gotta make you wonder what the unit software must look like.

Garmin Connect will lead to Garmin's Demise

I agree with all the messages of frustration from existing Motionbased users coming to terms with Garmin Connect.

Everyone I know that had a Garmin 305, was excited by the prospect of upgrading to the 405 when it came out. Once we all saw how poor Garmin Connect was we put our device upgrade plans on hold as the software is a critical part of the customer experience. Now that we are forced to use Garmin Connect with the 305, we are just angry, disappointed & disillusioned customers of Garmin....Surely someone in the Garmin corporate empire actually cares about this thread as it is costing the company sales, its reputation and customers.
