Loading Maps to MicroSD not to Unit

I am new to GPS units. I have an Oregon 550t and use an Intel Mac with MacOS 10.5.8.

I have purchased west & southwest Topo 24k maps on DVDs and would like to load portions of each DVD onto individual microSD cards for labeling purposes rather than loading onto unit.

How can I load a map to microSd rather than unit?:confused:

Note: Loading direct to unit works fine except that both West and Southwest labels show the same details. (??)

Assistance / recommendations appreciated.

Assuming the the Maps are unlocked...

Could you place one SD into the unit and run the MapInstall
application.

It should allow you to pick the device where the Map is to be
installed.

After the (lengthy) install process replace the *other* SD card
into the unit and repeat the process...

Whoops, I have a 705 unit...Not sure that the above is appropriate for your
device...

Thanks. I tried the MapInstall approach but nothing pops up that allows me to choose location.

Copy your garmin xml file onto your sd card in a Garmin folder. That should fool mapinstall into thinking its your GPS.
