Disappointed

Reading the posts I can see that I am not the only one who is frustrated and disappointed with Garmin. What kind of testing did they bother to do before releasing GC? Is this the result off shore development? Someone is responsible for releasing this. I could never hand over this kind of defective software to a client. I'd rather be late and deliver something that works then on time and deliver something that doesn't work.
Shame on Garmin and shame on the developers.
  • , but simply to do with lack of developer resources to implement this particular feature.
We definitely want to enable users to update existing activities, we just haven't quite gotten there yet.

I have noticed that over the last couple of days there has been noticeably more input from garmin development staff on this forum and to me it is very welcome and an obvious ploy to pacify the users.

If resources are so scarce to implement a site/feature that is very much trailed with the advertisements of the latest Garmin ranges, why was Motionbased, which was no means perfect, but in general worked, ditched?

the current attention of developers on the forum follows an update and anticipated user response. but please, don't be confused, the forums are always read and bugs are created when they are legitimate. feature requests are welcomed from users, and we're constantly striving to achieve the motionbased features that were used.

software development is a process; you can't just drag something built five years ago on older platforms and expect it to work in a newer environment. We are working to achieve the feature sets that you want, as well as working hard to make sure our environment is stable and the site has less down time. in the mean time, hopefully you are able to view and navigate through your activites until we either achieve the features you deem important or find that they are no longer useful to the majority of our audience.
feel free to post bugs to address any specific issues you are experiencing.

    Thanks!

    Thanks

Well I for one would like to thank the team for taking the time to put themselves in the firing line and come out to answer questions - it would be much easier to hide away, so well done guys.

I'm sure your team is small and you're probably expected to do far more than is reasonable, and of course you've been working on the updates so not been able to post so much. It helps nobody to just keep going on about the same old thing again and again so my advice would be to take a bit of time next week to make sure that the FAQs are all up to date, announcements are made about what is happening, etc and then mods on here can point people to the right information and everyone knows the score. They might not all like it, but at least it's there! Then you can maybe work on building a community here, getting some people involved in testing perhaps, whatever helps you get things done faster and better.

Alright, I will stop going on about things now! Thanks for the efforts in doing the updates, as you know there are still many people who want more things adding but as long as you keep people informed I think that's the main thing.

    Devon,

I see I am not the only one totally disappointed in the new GC vs. the old MB. What really TICKS me off though is that out of the 84 or so activities I have uploaded over the past two years to MB, only TWENTY SIX yes that's 26 have been migrated over to GC. Now that would be fine if I could still access my maps and activities on MB but every time I try to do so I get this from MB: A system error occurred. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please try again or return to the MotionBased Home Page.

So now ALL of my maps and activites are off limits and useless to me. I was a paying member of MB and I paid to have access to my files now I have none.... So what'cha gonna do....? Most of my 84 files/activities are unique and irreplaceable I just want access at this point so I can download a hard copy of each one of my 84 activites so they are not lost forever... I am see red right now and am very displeased with the product that Garmin is putting their name on, shotty VERY SHOTTY

  • I have to disagree - Garmin incorporates, brands, and includes the cost of Garmin Connect with the price of the hardware. We are paying for the whole package - and pat of that doesn't work, then it reflects on the whole thing. Similar to having a computer that doesn't have a fully functioning operating system.

Windoze has never been a fully functional operating system, neither has any other for the matter!! If you apply similar logic, we would never purcahse computers.

Seriously though, when I bought the 305 originally it was because of the functionality of the device, not the quality of the software. At the time I never gave a thought to the software that came with it. I migrated from hard copy activity data logging to software based because of the 305, but never got into the web based logging.I did not want to pay a subscription, but also because I wanted the data in my house.
Fast forward to the 310XT. Now being an entrenched SportTracks user I see no reason to move to GTC or GC. GC looks nice and, as I had no experience of MotionBased, seems good. But compared to RunSaturday.com, there's clearly some features lacking. GC is nice to have but not essential for operation of my 310XT. I still see the software that Garmin produces for activity logging as a useful aside to their hardware.
I bought the device for the funtionality at that pricepoint. Polar may well have better software, but the pricepoint for their devices is significantly higher for the same level of functionality.
The 310XT works and has some bugs, these are, as far as I can tell, being addressed quickly.
GC and GTC is lacking in features that other offerings have. These features may or may not be included at a later date. But these applications are an extra and included with the device free of charge as a service, allowing the user to begin 'soft' data tracking. And that's where 3rd party providers step in, as usual to fill inthe gap.
