Disappointed

Reading the posts I can see that I am not the only one who is frustrated and disappointed with Garmin. What kind of testing did they bother to do before releasing GC? Is this the result off shore development? Someone is responsible for releasing this. I could never hand over this kind of defective software to a client. I'd rather be late and deliver something that works then on time and deliver something that doesn't work.
Shame on Garmin and shame on the developers.

In agreement. I'm the Technical Support Manager for a small software developement company and one of my responsibilities is to ensure new versions of our software is thoroughly tested with increased functionality...if we released a new version which had substantially less functionality (a lot of it fundamental), less usable with obvious problems we'd be out of business very quickly...

I've started using SportTracks which works brilliantly but I still like the player in MB and the ability to link to activities....just hope they sort it out shortly (or preferably bring MB back! - though that's obviously never going to happen)..

    David.K.Johnson --

You are venting some steam, fine. You say that GC isn't well tested and is defective, but you give no examples, so you shouldn't expect any help in fixing these unidentified problems.

You seem to be conflating two things. Features to GC which you want to have doesn't mean the software is buggy or not well tested. This is the category that most people seem to have the most complaints about. Features which GC implemented but don't work properly are indications of incomplete testing and would be categorized as defective software. There are undoubtedly such problems, and reporting them would be a real benefit to improving GC.

So are you whining about the well-known and much discussed missing features, or is there some feature which Garmin intended to work but doesn't?

    Stuff that doesn't work

In response to your question about what DOESN't work on the GC:
    1. Multiple FAILED login attemps when loggin into my account - which looks very similar to the posting I have in the Fourm - GARBAGE.
    2. Multiple FAILED links when trying to view my Activities
Need to CONSTANTLY click UPLOAD and refresh the page: GC seems to get stuck reading activites from my EDGE 305. Takes sometimes over 30 Min to upload my activites!!! (Which is insane!) (However, I have found that by using FIREFOX, the activites tend to transfer better than with I.E.)
    3. Same Slownes/UPLOAD FAILURE on uploading activites

I have had more "SERVER ERRORS" with the new Garmin Connect site in the last 2 weeks than I have had with MB in the past 6 months! The thing that frustrated me with MB is that when I would upload a 10 hour ride - it would take forever to get the activity to upload. Or I could only upload 1 or 2 activities (depending on size) at a time. SAME THING OCCURS in GC, only my rides are 25 min (commuting), and I can;t upload more than 1 activity at a time (most times) and that the GC has a hard time transferring my data (esp if I get the SERVER ERROR screen).

I have already posted my ramblings of the lack of Features that GC has so I won't go their. So there is the answer to your question!

You can link to GC activities. View the activity and then just cut the web address.

You're not the only one disappointed with this POS. I go away for a couple weeks only to come back and find out that everything has been migrated to some buggy joke of an interface that, as far as I can tell, is unusable.

I tried to upload old activity (only 1 day on device during my attempt) from my 205 before my run at lunch today - no dice. Oh well, I'll just erase the last day and try again after my run, right? Wrong. Same thing "please wait...." So now I've waited a good 40 minutes - NOTHING. Tried IE and Firefox, same results. Checked to make sure the SW on my device is up to date, it is - still nothing. Now I'm on the phone waiting for "tech support" because I can find nothing of value in the FAQs - how long am I told I will need to wait to talk to someone? 35 to 40 minutes?!! Seriously?!

I deal with this ALL DAY - I run to get AWAY from it, and now I can't do something as simple as upload a single run without devoting a significant chunk of time to sitting on hold, hoping I'll get an answer?

    FAIL. Epic FAIL.

Thanks guys, the new offering is really nifty - how about something that works for even the simplest of functions next time around?

Yes, this has to be the worst software ever devised. As a matter of fact it is getting worse in spite of several "fixes" being applied. There has not been a single time this week were I didn't encounter errors when attempting to upload ride data. I have had login errors multiple times with HTTP 500 Jboss errors, inability to upload data, Saving activity details gives me a "Forbidden" error. Logins taking up to 4-5 minutes when I can login at all and now the Timing, Cadence, Elevation and Heart Rate detail views are blank. All this for software that has fewer features than Motionbased. This is simply unacceptible.

Yes, I get the "Forbidden" Error when trying to edit the titles of activities that were migrated over as "Untitled". Anyone know how to get Connect to list the activities in chronological order? When I click on the top of the date column, I get server/jboss errors. I WAS going to get a Garmin 405cx for Christmas, but now I think I'll put my 301 on eBay before it's made completely worthless by Garmin Connect. What Einstein at Garmin thought that Connect was the way to increase sales?!
  • Garmin Connect may not be all that it is cracked up to be, but to use that as a reason not to get a Garmin device is a little bit like cutting of your nose to spite your face. We've had Garmin devices for the past few years now with few problems and recommend them to all who listen to us. We've never used MotionBased, use Training Centre only for downloading workouts and as a backup and only looked at Garmin Connect in recent days because that's where the 310XT and ANT Agent pointed us.
It quickly became apparent that there was little of interest there for us.

We've been committed SportTracks users for the past 3 years and ahve now discovered RunSaturday.com.

So, by all means lambast Garmin Connect (and Garmin Training Centre) but don't use that as an excuse not to buy and use Garmin devices. Our experience with the FR305, Edge305 and now FR310XT tell us they are very excellent training tools.

    And I paid for this???

I agree with the posts above. From the infinitely delayed data migration and opening of GC to the painful releases, I am not sure what is going on here.

The worst part is that I paid for a membership to MB. Now everyone has access to the same features I do. All I have is the promise of "special" features in the future.

How can I expect anything above and beyond, when this site can't even get the bear essentials (like a simple upgrade) to work without a few days of pain?

    Very disappointed.

I have to disagree - Garmin incorporates, brands, and includes the cost of Garmin Connect with the price of the hardware. We are paying for the whole package - and pat of that doesn't work, then it reflects on the whole thing. Similar to having a computer that doesn't have a fully functioning operating system.
