Constant Browser Crashes

Hi all,
I have had a new Gamrin Edge 705 for about 2 weeks now and have this new problem uploading stuff unto Garmin Connect. I use a Mac with the latest software, have the latest version of the Garmin Communicator Plug-in and have used it successfully before to upload details of my ride. However, since Sunday, every time I try to upload details of a ride I did on sunday morning, my browser (Safari v 4) quits unexpectedly. I have sent a report to Apple as it gives you the option to do that. The funny thing is when I do the communicator test, it tells me my Edge is connected and communicating properly. When I sign in to myGarmin and click on myDashboard, it can see the Edge 705 and tells me how much space I have left. However, everytime I try to upload that fateful sunday ride (where I even fell and wounded my elbow terribly:mad:) the browser crashes. I decided to install Firefox and use that but it also crashes. I do not have Flip4Mac installed and have never have so I'm not quite sure what the problem is particularly as I have used it successfully before. I also decided to download and install Garmin Training Centre and thought I could give that a try. Software was installed successfully but when I plug in the Edge, I would get a message saying it can not find my Edge. I have sent an email to our good friends at Garmin but haven't heard anything back. Any ideas anyone?
  • It is quite possible the activity in question may be corrupted. Without knowing specific firmware versions on your 705 it would be hard to ake a recommendation. But if you can find your activity on the mounted 705 file system, zip it up and attach to this thread, someone might be able to look at the file and make a determination.

Thanks Saeedi for your reply. However, how do I find the activity mounted on the 705 file system?

You should be able to see your 705 mounted as a volume on your Desktop. Open the volume and Within the Garmin folder you should see the History folder. Your activities are saved there. You can also look at the Courses folder to find your courses.

Ah! I see what you mean now. I have attached the file as requested. Hopefully, this would shed some light on the problem I am having. Thanks.

I was able to send your activity to Garmin Connect without any issues.

Try uploading with Firefox and see if you experience the same issue. Otherwise, I would also check to be sure you have the latest Communicator plug-in.

But there appears there is no corruption in the activity you posted here.

    Hiya,
As mentioned in the original post, I did try with firefox and the firefox browser crashed / quit unexpectedly in the same way it did with Safari. I have the latest communicator plug-in as that was the first thing i checked and also do not have Flip4Mac installed. I have also tried resetting the device to no avail. I even decided to install Garmin Training Centre but even that kept telling me it could not upload my ride data.

I spoke to Garmin UK this morning and they have asked me to send it the unit for them to check as they haven't heard of this problem before. Hopefully, they will be able to sort the problem out. Many thanks for your replies though. I will keep you posted and what they say once I get the unit back.
  • I have Firefox (latest version) running on a Mac with Leopard (again all updates applied). It hangs on occasion when uploading from my Edge 305. I did note somewhere that GC has only been tested with Safari 3 on the Mac.

Would someone confirm what browsers have been tested on the Mac?

As mentioned in my last post, Garmin asked me to send my unit to them as I was having problems uploading my ride history. Everytime I did it, my browser crashed / quit unexpectedly. The good news is they have sent me a replacement unit. Plan to take it out for a spin today and hopefully, should be able to upload to GC without a problem

Similar problem solved by updating firmware

I've been having a similar problem. I'm running Firefox on a MacBook (Intel Core 2 Duo) and attempting to upload from a Forerunner. When I first hit the "Upload" button in Garmin Connect, the display indicates that 100% of the data has been uploaded, but none of the activities show up in my Dashboard. If I attempt this upload one or two more times, Firefox locks up and I must do a Force Quit on the app.

The problem was solved by running the Web Updater to update the device firmware. It would be nice if Garmin Connect checked the device firmware information and informed the user if the firmware needed to be updated. The old firmware worked fine with Garmin Training Center, which lulled me into the false sense of security that everything was up to date.
