Forerunner 305 identified as 205

Dear Connect-People,

wondering why I see the Firmware Update note on the homepage I checked and realized that in my runs (uploaded using the Firefox plugin) the device is identified as Forerunner 205.
I only used the Forerunner 305, looks like device recognition does not work correct.
  • Could you post a link to one of your activities? Might help to troubleshoot this.

Edge 305 misidentified as Edge 205

I have been having this problem for a few weeks but just noticed it late last night, and I posted about it here:

    https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=460

That link includes the activity before and after the problem showed up. Note that in my case it is an Edge, not a Forerunner.

After seeing this thread, I took at look at my activities and discovered the same mis-identification. After looking back through my history, it appears that all the activities that I uploaded to Garmin Connect (the earliest being on June 20th) have this problem. All my activities that have been migrated from MotionBased are identified correctly.

Here is an example of an activity with this issue:

    Some information here: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=533

The 205 and 305 identify themselves in the same way. This can cause Garmin Connect to identify a 305 as a 205. This should not affect you data (Cadence/HR) in any way. I would not recommend resetting your unit, as it will not change this behavior.

    There is a trend here.
After updating the firmware on my 305 it now shows as a 205 but all the data seems OK
Even when I do the 3 second reset that Garmin Connect says to use before up loading the system tries to upload all activities on my 305 rather than the new ones only. this causes the system to lock up.
The whole interface is clumsy---why did we loose the easy synchronization of our Garmin Training center information?
I am still missing a lot of my MB runs from June and July.
It seems that garmin builds great equipment but doesn't do this sort of thing well.
