Transfer data from Training Center

Is it possible to transfer / upload history data from Training Center?
  • You can transfer data one activity at a time. Export the activity out of TC as a tcx file, then manually import into GC. If you've been uploading to MotionBased, then that data will eventually be migrated.
  • Transferring Training Centre .tcx File Errors

I too am trying to transfer some activities from Training Centre (Mac) into Garmin Connect. When I export from Training Centre, each .tcx file is 38.7 MB in size. Is such a large file size to be expected?

When I try, in Garmin Connect, to manually import one of these files, the process eventually errors out, after about 10 minutes uploading. I get an error, on the Garmin Connect Manual Upload page:
Unable to upload file. Possible reasons for this error:
    - You are not signed in. Refresh this page and try again.
    - Our servers are having technical difficulties.

Anyone have any success uploading activities from Training Centre on the Mac? Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

    Thanks

    Mike

No, something wrong there. A 15 mile run I did today was 750 K. Are you exporting the activities individually? Right click on the activity and select export. I'm using the Windows version of TC.

Thanks for the reply. Something strange here, as I am exporting single activities, but from the Mac version of Training Centre (v2.1.7).

I just tried to export a 10 km run I did yesterday, from Training Centre. It was logged on my Edge 305. When I export from Training Centre, the .tcx file is 40 MB! (I know how to upload directly from the GPS to Garmin Connect. Its just I have some old activities that are only in Training Centre, that I want to get into Garmin Connect.)

Anybody on a Mac have success exporting activities from Training Centre to Garmin Connect?

  • I'm using GTC 2.1.8 for the Mac. I just exported a 10 mile run I did yesterday that took me about 1:30 to do. File size is 4.8 mb.

I then tried to upload the file to GC, and in each of three attempts I got the same error message that you received.. Then I tried to go to some other GC pages, and I kept getting errors. Maybe their servers really are down right now.

I'm pretty sure I have uploaded tcx files to GC successfully, but I'm not positive they were generated from GTC (I might have generated them from Ascent). I do remember that it took several attempts.

I've upgraded to Training Centre 2.1.8, but still have the same problem. Yesterday's 10 km run, exports as a 40 MB .tcx file!
(MacBook Pro, Mac OS X, 10.5.7)

Training Center for the Mac cannot export individual activities. So, the resulting export file contains all your activities.

Thanks for this nugget of information. So, it is not possible to export activities from Training Centre on the Mac into Garmin Connect.

Hopefully this a (well) known issue and will be fixed soon? :o

I can confirm this is the correct explanation. I opened up the .tcx file in a text editor and can see all the different activities, courses and workouts in XML format in the file. Now to see if I can manually extract a few selected activities...

You can do that. I have done so in the past. But found it easier to maintain Windows in VMWare and run GTC for Windows for these sorts of things. I have requested the ability to export individual activities or multiple activities at once.

Wow, I didn't realize this. This is certainly not obvious.
