Weather Data

The motion based used to have the possibility to show weather data, I miss this quite a bit it is a helpful reference. As I use the forerunner when I go sailing, I would love to have also the wind data which is also useful for runners....

Please put back the weather data and include the wind data!

Thanks

Marc
  • Already planned.

Garmin Connect does not support weather at this time. We plan on introducing this feature at Garmin Connect. When we do, it will run against all past, present, and future activities at Garmin Connect.
  • Ok, fair enough, but how about they take it one step further and change the track on the map to have 3 different colours....

    Red : Head wind
    Yellow : Cross wind
    Green : Tail wind

It wouldnt be the most accurate, but it would be a good guide if using local weather station information.

Actually, what I would like to see is the track color coded according to HR zone, e.g., red for zone 5 down to blue for zone 1. Ascent does this, and I think it's a very useful feature.
  • ooo, thats a good idea.

Maybe have it configurable as to what the track is showing information wise?

Yep. Ascent can display the following zones: HR, speed, pace, cadence, power, altitude, and gradient. All zones are user-definable.

Hopefully GC will catch up someday.

Motionbased has the ability to display weather conditions, which Garmin Connect does not.

    Temp

I'd really like to see the temperature associated with activities. Living in Arizona, there are many times that racing and training take place under pretty extreme temps. I'd l like to see how temps relate to the activities. I would think that all the necessary info is available from the workout (coordinates and time) to grab the temp from a weather site.

    Nearest Weather Station

I agree that weather data would be a great addition. My running partners and I joke about how it would be great to have the weather instrument package on our hats in addition to the heart rate monitor.

I couldn't be that hard to grab weather data from the nearest weather station when you have the coordinates and timestamp.

It would put a lot of context on the pace and heart rate data. Yesterday's run was at ~90 degrees and a really high dew point.

    Thanks.

Same issue here in Texas. In addition to capturing weather data I want to be able to run analytics that show the impact of temperature on my pace, HR, number of activities, race times, or anything else that jumps to mind later.

Connect doesn't do as lot! :-(

The location for the weather needs to be user definable.

I live and usually train in North London, but Motionbase showed me the weather at Biggin Hill many miles away in Kent.

London's a big place. often its raining at Wimbledon or Lords when it is sunny at home!
