Export from fitbit using Google take out and import to Garmin

I know this has come up a few times but the answers don't seem to work for me. Has anyone recently managed to export fitbit data using Google takeout and import into Garmin Connect successfully? TIA

  • Which kind of data are you trying to import? Could you post a sample file here? You may need to zip it in order to be able inserting it into the post.

  • This is a link to the export I get from google. I don't get any options for date range so it gives me everything for almost 10 years in one hit. I tried importing file by file for different data types and the only ones that worked were empty. Thanks for your help

  • Garmin Connect accepts importing of activity files in FitBit CSV format, but I do not see any such activities in your zip archive. Perhaps I did not search long enough. Besides that, weight, and some other body data (like Calories, Steps, Intensity Minutes) can be imported too, but I failed to localize those too. If you know in which folder they are, let me know.

Note: I strongly recommend that you edit your previous post, and remove the link to the zip archive, since it contains all your data, including some rather sensitive account information, and this user forum is publicly accessible and indexable by search engins, hence quite open to abuse.

  • Thanks Trux, there are some CSV files in there but also a lot of json files which I know are not compatible. The export didn't give any option for file type either, just an option to export all data from google. Are there any examples of files that can be imported somewhere that I could compare to?

Yes, if you look up the forum, you can find plenty of examples. You can start with the "Related" threads on the right side of this page. If it does not help, use the Search function at the top.

  • Hi Trux, sorry I missed this part about data location. The export is a bit of a mess. There was a folder for Physical Activity which seems to contain Calories, Steps, Heart rate and more. Trying to import this still results in an error. Not sure if it could be because of the timestamp in the files - as an example this is the timestamp from one of the steps file

    2024-10-01T00:06:00Z

Data in each csv is for the month, broken down by minute it that helps

  • As I wrote - try searching the forum, I am sure there are a few examples of working files. For example the following file format works for importing the weight, BMI, and Body Fat %

    Body
    Date,Weight,BMI,Fat
    "2022-11-03","71.6","22.6","14.4"

There can be multiple lines of data, but the first 2 header lines appear just once.
